Great Stuff in the Main Library at ISB!
It has been a really exciting week in the Main Library. Loads of Middle School English classes have come to the library to select books to take on break for pleasure reading. It has been really fun to talk with young readers who are moving to selecting books that they are genuinely interested in reading. Their excitement and interest in developing their skills as well as hearing their recommendations.
Additionally, we hosted what we hope will be an annual event. The Grade 9 English classes conducted the Shark Tank: School of the Future. After conducting research on what schools of the future might entail and then investingating what ISB has and doesn’t has student teams put together presenations. Then, much like the tv show Shark Tank, ISB Admin, Dr. Davies, Ms. Caskey, Mr. DeVries, and Mr. Alexander all joined as the ‘Sharks’ making a decision to pretend to fund one of the projects.
The comments around the presentations were:
- The students were so professional in their deliveries!
- It was clear they had conducted some authentic research on their topics.
- What an amazing event
It was great fun and eventually, it was decided that growing the Virtual Reality program into the Languages department was the most feasible for ISB. Other ideas included a solar farm, sleep pods, and a student kitchen.
We love hosting events in the library, especially when we can highlight some great research conducted by ISB Students. Hopefully this will be an annual event and kudos to the Grade 9 English team for putting together a magical event. Thanks Ms. Hazel, Mr. Werner, and Mr. Duffy!
Lastly, it is break and we hope students grabbed books to read over the break. If not remember that you can always access SORA our digital ebook and audio book tool for students. We are always adding and developing our collection.
Have a wonderful break, spend some time together, and relax!
Warmest Regards,
The Main Library Staff

BOOK REVIEW! Klara and the Sun – by Kazuo Ishiguro
If you like Kazuo Ishiguro (Nobel Prize for Literature Winner) this is his latest offering and it does not disappoint. Life in the future has a different set of problems. How do we manage the work we do and our limited time while we maintain relationships? Sometimes it will be too difficult and as a result we create friends or Artificial Friends. In this near future dystopic novel by classic writer Kazuo Ishiguro (writer of The Remains of the Day), explores the idea of having to create our friends. What that might look like and how does love change when our friendship circles are limited? Very interesting and beautifully writen book.
