Welcome back!
Well, we wish were face to face yet we hold out hope for a return soon. In the meantime, the education process goes on and students are in class with teachers. I’ve been lucky enough to already be in a few classes with teachers to see how it is going. One thing is clear, everyone is trying their very best to make things awesome. A great quote for what we are going through now by Robert Tew:
“The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need tomorrow.”
In all classes, we are supporting kids and making things as normal as possible. What can you do to help with this process? Helping your child get set up at home with not only their wifi but also a workspace that helps them be successful as well as scheduling. Structure is one of the things I’ve stressed with teachers. Making sure that we eliminate as many questions around where are things and how do I, to create a more reliable setting for the students. By eliminating the anxiety of ‘what’s coming up’ we can put students’ minds at rest as well as teachers.
Below is a presentation I did last year for parents when we were going virtual at the end of the school year. I believe it is great information and has some suggested reading that can also provide insights into too much technology time and some ways to avoid it. As always we are here to help.
Additionally, the Main Library is processing book requests by students, teachers, and community members and you are more than welcome to take a look at our catalog and request books. We generally can fill the requests, if the books are available, in 24-48 hours. We then have them bagged up with your name on the bag for pick up in front of the school. The steps to requests books are:
- Search the Main Library Catalog for a great book to take a break from your technology.
- Once you find a book, use the Book Request Form to request the title.
- Wait for a confirmation from a Library Staff Member that your books are ready
- Come to ISB and collect your books.
Best of luck and best wishes for this school year.
Warmest Regards,
Your Librarians
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Life for Leni is complicated. Her father just got home from the Vietnam Conflict and he is different. Her mom is different when he is around. The family doesn’t have much and her dad is bent on taking the family to Alaska to start over. This is where the real adventure begins. A great story of a young girl working through the difficulties of family and friends all while just trying to survive the Alaskan wilderness.
