Are you RELAXING?

It has been a very fast start and while it has been virtual, it seems the opening was relatively smooth.  Teachers are reporting that they were much more prepared and students responded better. The result was that even though we were online, the start-up was as near to the normal fast start as could be expected. This means as we approach this first long weekend of the year, many are ‘ready for a quick break’.

I am also one of those people looking forward to this break. One of the things I am most looking forward to is getting my personal reading back on track. There are some new books that I have been waiting to get my hands on since this summer.  What are some of those books?

These are what I am looking forward to reading. Hopefully, you have a list too! If there are books that you read and would suggest by all means please write me (christob@isb.ac.th) or Ms. Kehe (melindak@isb.ac.th) we consider all recommendations.

Have a nice extra long weekend and hope to see you soon.

Warmest Regards

Bell’s Recommendation

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue

Every man should have to read this book. This is the harrowing tale of a nurse, Julia, in a maternity ward during the Influenza Epidemic in Dublin circa 1918. From the start you get a sense of how rough it was to deliver babies during this time period. I was terrified to find out that painkillers were not used during pregnancies. Add in the very sick and dying and you have a scene straight out of a dystopian novel. However, it is the toughness, thoughtfulness, and sheer determination that the nurses and patients show that draws at your heart. This is quite a read and not for the faint of heart. I guarantee you will walk away with a new sense of respect for nurses.
