A New Look!
One of our goals for this year is to relaunch the eNews with new branding as well as a much more sophisticated marketing plan. This hopefully will include an update to our website as well. Keep your eyes out for some new and exciting changes.
We will now be adding weekly book recommendations for Middle Grade, Young Adult/Adult titles, a Technology Tool for Everyone, and a Digital Citizenship Tool for Everyone as well as our standard updates that will appear here in the message.
It’s been another very eventful week in the library.
The library was hoping this week with students in grade 7 ad 8 coming in for a review of the library’s policy and the catalog. The MS Library council reconvened this week to begin planning our September Book Display and Promotion.
We also had the Final Extended Essay meetings for students in Grade 12 before they submitted their BEST DRAFT to their supervisors for feedback. It has been a bit stressful for the Seniors, but we know they will pull through with flying colors. Additionally, we had the launch of the EE with the Grade 11 students in the library which sets them on the research journey.
Adding to the fun this week, we have been hosting the Athletics Department team as their new area is getting finished up. They are using the upstairs and have been sharing the space with students who need a quiet space to study.
Most Grade 9 students have been to the library as well to get book talks focused on the theme of friendship and the ‘others’ as they selected a book for their independent reading to accompany a wonderful book we recommended from the library by a Thai author, Rattawut Lapcharoensap. The book is called Sightseeing and is a mix of short stories related to life in Southeast Asia.
Lastly, two afternoons a week we host the IASAS Chess Club/Team in the Library Lab as well as IASAS Film Team. As we said, it was another busy week in the Main Library, and we love every part of it!

Mr. Bell’s Recommendations:
The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles
A new take on The Odessy, or Of Mice and Men, Amor Towles’s newest offering, is a win! It follows two brothers on a harrowing adventure as they seek to track down their lost mother. They attempt to cross the country where they face fights in a boxcar, murder, and constant roadblocks to their progress. Set towards the end of the Great Depression in America, our characters face joblessness and financial woes. As we follow our two brothers on their adventure, the past continues to haunt the oldest brother via friendships made in a boy’s detention center. This book will be enjoyed by Young Adults to Adults. Towles also wrote a Gentleman in Moscow which like this title falls into the Historical Fiction genre. My favorite thing about his writing is the characters he develops – they are always so realistic and believable.

Digital Citizens Corner
Great poster here to remind us all about clicking or following things that might be a little less than safe. Remember you can’t be too safe. If you don’t know where something is coming from or if you got a random message/email from an account you do not recognize, it could be someone trying to access your personal data. Don’t open it and delete it. This is the simplest and safest answer. Also if you have questions about any contacts, it is always ok to ask a trusted friend or adult what they think. Lastly, you can always check with your Tech Coordinator or your Librarians. Have a safe week.
