Lego Robotics Tournament Recap

Dear All,

I know there are so many amazing things happening at ISB with sports, arts and music right now but I wanted to give you all a quick recap of our robotics tournament and season. Let me know if you have the best medium to share with our community.

Congratulations to our ES and MS Lego Robotics teams who jointly competed in the Thailand National First Lego League tournament on Feb 3rd and Feb 4th at the National Science Museum in Bangkok. It was an action packed and fun-filled 2 day tournament. We had 2 ES teams (Crafty Piggies and Creative Penguins) and 2 MS teams (Axocats and TwomuchTrouble) who represented ISB and competed in this global tournament with over 28 other teams attending from around Thailand. We had many parents attend both days and help out with this event and there were about 400 people at attendance including the US Ambassador. All our rookie teams collected awards including Rookie Inspiration Award, Mentor Award, Team Spirit Award and Sponsor Award. Here’s a video of the highlights and ISB Twitter’s video recap of our in house tournament here on Jan 20th.

Dean Kamen’s famous saying “I don’t use kids to build robots, I use robots to build kids” was clearly evident in this event. I think I can speak on behalf of the other coaches to say it was an incredibly rewarding experience and we were so proud of how our teams persevered, problem-solved, truly bonded and came together as 4 rookie teams. Seeing the look on their faces of pure joy and surprise when their mission finally worked (see this video!) that they had spent hundreds of attempts on in practice rounds was priceless. They had to overcome so many challenges as a team including coding a robot for the first time, losing and reshuffling teammates last minute due to illness, figuring out how FLL works, preparing posters, scripts and props as well as countless others. The students are already so excited and talking about next year’s challenge and want to compete again next year!

A big thank you to our admin leadership team for their support, activities and tech department for their support and funding, parents who gave up countless hours and of course our coaches for their endless hours of support, passion and dedication.

We hope that we are building something special at ISB through this program and showing our ISB attributes and values through an authentic context.

Thanks for your support!

Mark, Libby, Marcus and Wes
