Grade 3/Grade 9 Writing Collaboration

 

This was sparked from our vertical meeting we had during the ERD, therefore we thought you would be interested in seeing something come into action from our time together. 

Rich, Ben and I looked at the curriculum calendars and realized that both grades were writing feature articles at the same time. Since we have the same essential questions we decided to design a 3-4 session collaboration. Initially, we met to review and support research topics and how to begin our research by choosing the right questions and subtopics. 

 

Today we met to look at our drafts in grade 3, Grade 9 looked at our goals and then helped us develop stronger topic sentences, supported with adding more details and asking us questions for us to go back and revise.

 

Grade 9, trialed their research questions on us for their next steps in taking those questions forward. Based on our responses they also revised their questions.

 

Our final meeting will be in 2 weeks. We will have a Writing Celebration in our Grade 3 classroom to celebrate our published feature articles.

 

Finally, we have built-in reflection time for both groups. What the students (G9 &3) are saying is fantastic. On a side note, we also received some very positive feedback from families who heard about our project.
