MAP Testing

Hello Families,

Our class will take the reading MAP Test at 8:00am tomorrow and the math MAP Test on Thursday at 8:00am.   You do not need to do anything different from your child’s regular routine to prepare your child for this test.

For most kids, this 50 question electronic test was their first taste of formal academic testing.   Many struggled with the multiple choice format, as this is not something we use in grade 2.  If you are concerned about your child’s score, or growth, please contact Mr. Hagen.  MAP is one place where we look to get a picture of how a learner is progressing.  Mr. Hagen regularly conferences with your child in reading, writing, and math.  Mr. Hagen also administers the Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment to all kids three times per year.  There are also other assessments in writing and math.  Educators refer to all of the data we collect about a learner as a “body of evidence.”  This allows us to use multiple tools to understand where a child is and what next steps should be.
