Message from HS Principal
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th
Dear High School Parents,
It was the last week of school for the majority of our seniors in the lead-up to their exams which start today! Our seniors love ISB so much that more than half of them slept over (in the gym) on Monday night at the Senior’s Sunrise event. Games, food, movies, and decorating their ISB white shirts were the events that kept them busy until late into the evening. A great Epicure breakfast and some coffee helped the students (and the chaperones) get ready for Tuesday – their last day of school.
We wish our seniors all the best as they begin their exams and look forward to graduation. Once they finish their exams there is a week of preparations and celebrations for them to look forward to with the Golf Cart Parade, Prom (both on May 20th), and then graduation on May 27th. More details will be shared in the coming weeks, but do make a note in your calendar for 8.30 am May 20th – Golf Cart Parade around Nichada as we would love to see all of our community members out on the streets of Nichada cheering our seniors on their parade!
Of course, school continues on for our Grade 9-11 students with another 7 weeks of learning in front of us. The Juniors are enjoying their move to the front of the Chevron for the HS assemblies and the Grade 9 students are waiting patiently to welcome the incoming Grade 8 students who will sit at the very back in August. Times are changing
Have a great weekend.
Justin Alexander

End of Year Exams for Grades 9-11
Monday May 29th to Friday June 2nd
Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th
Exams for Grades 9-11 are scheduled for May 29th through to June 2nd.
Students in Grades 9 and 10 will have an exam in each of their core subjects: English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and World Language. Students in Gr11, will have an exam in most of their IB classes as well as an ISB core class if it is relevant to the nature of the course structure.
Please note that exams are not weighted and do not count towards a certain percentage of the semester grade. They are however used summatively and constitute one data point towards the total body of evidence of learning for each student.
HERE is an overall schedule of exams. Further information such as duration of exams, room assignments etc. are being adjusted and will be shared in the next couple of weeks.
Individual student exam schedules will be posted on PowerSchool next week. Please check in Grades and Attendance for the schedule.
2023 Prom – important information for parents
Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
We are excited to announce that Prom will take place on Saturday, May 20th, from 6:30 to 10:30 pm at the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok Hotel, 33/1 South Sathorn Road, Yannawa, Sathorn, Bangkok, 10120 Thailand.
We want this event to be a night of celebration for all students and we’re confident that many great memories will be made. However, we also want to remind everyone of the rules and policies that must be followed in order to make this event a success.
All students who purchased tickets signed the Prom Attendance Agreement attached to this email. Additionally, we would like to remind all students of the Dance Policies outlined in the ISB High School Student Handout (page 42-43). Key points are outlined below:
- Formal Attire is required.
- Students must arrive by 7:30 pm. If there are any traffic issues, please inform Andy Vaughan (0875149550) or Peter Assimakopoulos (0995401474).
- Students must sign out if they leave the dance and record the time they left.
- Students leaving the dance early will not be permitted to return and must remain in the designated dance/activity area.
- All ISB rules regarding alcohol, drugs, and tobacco are in effect. Attendance at school or school-sponsored events, on or off-campus, while having used drugs or consumed alcohol in any amount, either at the event or prior to the event, will be considered a major rules infraction. Any infraction will jeopardize a student’s right to walk at Graduation.
- Transportation to and from the event is not provided. ISB staff will remain in the hotel lobby until all students have departed.
- The High School Administrative team and a team of chaperone teachers will be supervising the event.
- The event will conclude at 10:30 pm and students and chaperones will be asked to leave the venue at this time. We request that all students be picked up by 10:45 pm at the latest.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in making Prom a memorable and safe event for all students.
Kind regards,
Peter Assimakopoulos and Andy Vaughan

Parent University Coffees
Thank you to those parents who attended the Parent University Coffee on Thursday. The presentation, Financing Higher Education, can be accessed here on the University Counseling Website.
Watch for the sign up for the final Parent University Coffee, Year in Review and Open Forum, on Friday, 12 May, at 9:00 AM in the Middle School Sky Box. This session will be a wrap up and review of the year’s coffees and a Q&A session. The registration form will be sent out next week to provide a way for parents to submit questions that you may have regarding the university counseling program at ISB.
Grade 12
Most seniors have completed their time in class and are now on study leave, preparing for their IB exams. We wish them all the best on their upcoming exams!
Just a reminder, students should be placing deposits at universities to reserve their space for studying next year. The deadline in the US for depositing is before 1 May. Other countries (Canada, UK, Hong Kong, etc) have varying deadlines and must be adhered to in order to insure a space for next year.
Students may NOT double deposit! Students may only put a monetary deposit at one university world wide. It is not allowed for students to deposit and hold a space at more than one university. If a student or parent has any questions about depositing, please reach out to the university counselor.
Reminder Sr Parents: Please complete the University Counseling Parent Survey which was sent last week! We really want your ideas, feedback and insight and hope to hear from many more of you! Just click on the link above to complete the survey. It’s only 8 questions and will take you just a few minutes. Thank you in advance for your time!
Grade 9
Next week University Counselors will be working in conjunction with the advisory teachers to facilitate the students’ self exploration and career interests. Last week the grade 9 students were introduced to MaiaLearning and took an interest inventory to identify and rank their personal characteristics (Artistic, Conventional, Enterprising, Investigative, Realistic, Social). Next week the students will take a personality inventory to identify their personality type (Introversion vs Extroversion, Sensing vs iNtuition, Thinking vs Feeling, Judging vs Perceiving). Career choices have been paired with each of the activities. On Friday next week, the students will be asked to prepare one slide to share with their advisory about their personality characteristics and personality type and what career fields they are interested in learning more about. Ask your child to share their slide with you to start a conversation!
Upcoming University Visits:
Thursday, 11 May, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) 11:00-11:40 @ HS Conference Room
Thursday, 18 May, Sogang University (Korea), 3:00-3:40 @ HS Conference Room
Please encourage your child to consistently check the Virtual and Off Campus University Events spreadsheet to know what’s available. Please note that pre-registration is needed for some events.
Please check the ISB University/College Counseling website for useful information. You will find university research tools, transition resources for students and parents, recordings and slide shows from Parent Coffees and family presentations, virtual and off campus university visits, information about testing and how to sign up for the SAT at ISB, a list of summer programs about which the counselors have been informed, and the ISB School Profile.
Thank you,
Debbie

Frank Sambula Jr.
We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, May 25th, for an interactive discussion about transitions and how to leave Thailand well. We’ll also discuss how to arrive at your next destination well, whether it be a return home or another chapter in your international life and travels. It’s such a complicated time in your students’ (and probably your) lives, and we have a few ideas to share. We will also make space for our parent participants to share their experiences and help each other make the transition healthy for you and yours.
We hope you can make it on the 25th at 1:00 p.m. in MPB3 for an hour of learning and sharing positive transition next steps. Shannon Leoni, Frank Sambula Jr, and Kathyrn Manu will facilitate the session. Thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th!
Changes to Weight Room
Chris Mott
chrism@isb.ac.th
As you may know a lot of changes are taking place on campus over at the PE and Athletics departments. One of the projects is to remodel the current fitness center which will begin construction on May 15th. In order to prepare for that, everything in the current fitness center must be taken out of the space. While we are in that process, the fitness center will be closed down from May 1st until May 15th. On May 15th a temporary fitness center will be over in the sports science classroom in the New Sports Complex and Spin room. The hours for parents, alumni, etc. will remain the same: 5:00pm-8:00pm M-F and 8:00am-12:00pm on Saturdays. Please contact Cory Campopiano (coryc@isb.ac) if you have any questions. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

ES Gym use on weekends
Kelley McKenna
kelleym@isb.ac.th
Dear ISB Community.
During the construction period of the Auxi Gym, the Elementary Gym will be offered as an alternative space for students and families during the weekend hours. Much like the Auxi the ES Gym will be a shared space and cannot be booked at certain times for a group.
The ES Gym will be available for use between 12:00pm – 6:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Students and parents will be able to access the ES gym using their campus card via the doors in the breezeway. ES students need to be accompanied by an adult with an ISB campus card.
The ES gym can be used for indoor sports i.e. basketball, volleyball etc… All outdoor sports should remain on the sports fields.
A small selection of equipment will be available for use. It is recommended that students/families bring their own equipment.
The lights and AC will be switched on by the security guards with the first user and left on between the hours of 12:00pm – 6:00pm.
