justina@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
We are nearing the end of Semester one and are looking forward to the return of the Festive season’s concerts and celebrations in the coming weeks.
Our MS/HS Bands kick the festive season off with their concert on Tuesday, November 29th at 6.30 pm in the Chevron closely followed by our Jazz Night on Thursday, December 1st at 6.30 pm in the CCT. This is a different date than published in the printed calendar so please take note of the new date. The ISB Health Fair takes place on Wednesday 30th November 8-12 noon followed by an evening HS Parent meeting about Drug education at ISB (register HERE to attend that workshop).
All the best to our athletes who are playing at tonight’s Spirit Night tournament. You can see the full schedule later on in this newsletter.
Have a great weekend
Regards
Justin Alexander

Advanced Placement (AP) Information Meeting
Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th
We are pleased to invite parents to our Advanced Placement (AP) Information Meeting, which will take place on Thursday 1st of December, at 10AM in MPB1.
This will be a focused session where we will share information about the Advanced Placement courses at ISB and how AP courses can be combined with other ISB courses as part of a student’s academic program. We will also share with you some insights into how AP courses are viewed by US college admissions as part of a student transcript, as well as how they might benefit students applying for higher education in other countries.
Please register for the meeting using THIS LINK. The registration link also includes a space for you to enter a question you would like to have answered during the meeting. We can use these questions to help guide our discussions.
Hope to see you next week!
ps. This meeting was originally scheduled for November 24th due to a clash with American Thanksgiving
DELVE – Visas, Information, Medication
Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th
- Visas
We are three weeks away from DELVE and would like to remind families about securing visas for their children. For all trips outside of Thailand, families are responsible for checking visa requirements, obtaining the proper visas for entry for their child’s DELVE, and obtaining reentry visas for Thailand.
- Updated Itinerary and Further Communication
Teacher sponsors will send out updated itineraries and information for your child’s DELVE. You may have already received this information from them. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with the teacher sponsors with questions specific to your child’s DELVE.
- Medication
Students cannot self-administer medication while on trips. Chaperones will need to carry medication for all students and will organise times to give them their medication while on the trip.
Freedom From Chemical Dependency (FCD)
Jackie Valenzuela
jackiev@isb.ac.th
Freedom From Chemical Dependency (FCD) will be on campus meeting with our high school students next week. They work with schools around the world to:
- Encourage and support the non-use of alcohol and other illegal or illicit drugs during the growing years.
- Empower young people to make healthy, responsible choices regarding alcohol and other drug use
- Teach students and adults how to recognize the early warning signs of substance abuse and to intervene appropriately
- Educate students, parents, teachers, and administrators on the physiological and psychological effects of alcohol and other drugs
- Promote awareness of drug addiction, including alcoholism, as a progressive, chronic, and often fatal disease
- Provide educational communities with the guidance and training necessary to implement comprehensive, effective approaches to substance abuse prevention.
To that end, on Wednesday evening, November 30, you are invited to attend a parent session with the FCD specialist at 6:30pm in the Chevron theater. Please sign up HERE.
These programs present a perfect opportunity for discussing alcohol and other drug-related issues with your children. Parental involvement is crucial to our efforts to reduce the risks teenagers face. We want our students to hear from both school and home that we are concerned about alcohol, nicotine, and other drug use by adolescents, and that we are committed to keeping our children safe. We hope you can make it next week.
Best regards,
The High School Administration and Counselors

Grade 12
Seniors are plowing through their work leading up to submitting their applications. Please continue to encourage them to meet with their counselor for essay and application review and to set appointments well before the deadlines to submit their applications with their counselor.
All applications with a deadline before 1 February should be submitted before the winter break. University counselors will not be available over the break as they will be focusing on spending time with friends and family while rejuvenating for the second semester.
Senior Seminar #6 will be on Monday, 28 November. This is the last seminar for the semester. Seniors should meet with their university counselor to finalize all their application plans for this semester.
The next big deadline looming is the 30 November, University of California deadline! Students should have already reviewed their four Personal Inquiry Questions and application with their university counselor before submitting this week. Students should not wait until the deadline to apply! The UC website has repeatedly crashed the last few years the day before the deadline. To be safe seniors were instructed to submit applications by today, Friday, 25 November.
Also, all UCAS applications must be submitted to the university counselor by 1 December!
Grade 11
Junior Seminar assignments were due last week and this week. Students should have submitted their Personal Mission Statement last week and the Priorities and Preferences assignment was due on 24 November. Your 11th grader should have interviewed you for the Priorities and Preferences assignment. If you are a grade 11 parent, please ask your child about these!
The next Junior Seminar will be on 9 December.
SAT on Saturday, 5 December
The final paper and pencil version of the SAT will be administered at ISB on Saturday, 5 December. Students must have already registered for that test to be able to take it. Check-in will begin at 7:30 AM outside the MPB and the test is scheduled to start at 8:00AM. All students must bring the following items with them to be admitted to campus and the test rooms: School ID, National ID (passport or Thai national ID card), printed admissions ticket. Students are allowed to have a clear water bottle with them during testing but no food can be consumed in the testing room. Students may only bring pencils, erasures and acceptable calculators into the test room. If you have any questions about the SAT, please reach out to Ms Shrestha in the HS Counseling Office.
SAT Update
Beginning in March, the SAT will go digital. All tests will be taken on the student’s own laptop in the testing room at ISB. Registration is now open for test dates during semester two. Students can register here. Please remind your child to follow the instructions found on the ISB University Counseling website to be able to sign up for the test at ISB.
