Message from the Principal

Hi Everyone,

Exciting times for everyone this week as our Gr 9-11 students start their exam period on Monday and of course on Saturday May 28th our Seniors (the class of 2022) will be graduating from High School. This is a special day for our Seniors (and their parents) and it will be the first time in three years that we can hold a full graduation with an audience in attendance. We still have some restrictions to follow, but family members will be able to attend and to watch the ceremony live.

The celebrations are not just for our seniors though as the whole community can also join in. You will have seen the fantastic ES artwork on the front gate where our youngest artists have drawn wonderful portraits of our Seniors that are now on display. Additionally the ‘Senior Wall of Fame’ is now hanging up on the fence outside the Danicha housing compound where you too can walk along and see wonderful photos of our Seniors. Thank you to our wonderful senior parent group for organising and hanging the Senior Wall of Fame and thank you to our wonderful ES Artists and their ES Art teachers for the fantastic and colorful portraits at our front gate.

To kick off graduation week, you can join us at the 3rd Annual Golf Cart Parade which starts at 9am in the school car parks. Nichada and ISB community members are invited to join us (on the side of the streets) to cheer our seniors on as they drive around Nichada. You can see the route and timings by clicking on this MAP

See you on Saturday morning!

Senior Golf Cart Parade Saturday, May 21, 2022

justina@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB (and Nichada community),

You are all invited to share in the joy and celebration of our Class of 2022’s graduation by witnessing the 3rd annual ISB golf cart parade.

Seniors will drive in golf carts on a predetermined ROUTE from the ISB front gate (9.00 am) up towards the ‘Villa’ Roundabout and U-turn at that roundabout and then head back towards ISB taking a slight detour up past Nichada Maison/Casa and then turning left at the roundabout at ISB before heading around the lake, past the Community Church and then eventually back to ISB at approximately 9.25 am). Everyone is encouraged to come out of their houses and cheer the seniors on as they drive past. Please be sure to spread out along the roadside, give a loud cheer, make posters, and make some noise as they drive past.

Thank you in advance to Nichada management for their support of this parade and please note that there may be some traffic disruptions during this time. The route of the Golf Cart Parade and approximate times are listed HERE I suggest being out the front about 5 minutes before the times listed below in case we are a bit early!

Exams for Grade 9-11 Students

Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

Next week we have exams from Monday May 23rd – Wednesday May 25th for Grades 9 & 10 and all week for most students in Gr11.

Classes will resume as normal on Thursday 26th May for students in Grades 9 & 10 and a small group of Gr11 students who are not taking IB courses. Students in Gr11 who are required to attend class on Thursday and Friday have been notified.

Please note that individual student exam schedules have been posted on PowerSchool, however  HERE is an overall schedule of exams. There are three exam slots per day:

  • 7:45 – 9:45  Session A
  • 10:15 – 12:15  Session B
  • 1:15 – 3:15  Session C

Students should arrive for each exam at least 10 minutes ahead of time and go straight to the exam venue.

Students are only required to be in school for their exam, although they are of course welcome to use the library or other quiet study spaces in between exams. In order to have flexible access to campus during exam week, parent permission is required to allow students to leave campus during the school day. Parents have been sent a separate email with a form to indicate consent for their child to leave campus during the school day.

If your child is sick during exam week, please inform the HS office as soon as possible and make sure to obtain a medical certificate. We will endeavour to reschedule the student’s exam during the next available slot in the schedule.

We wish all our students the best of luck for their exams!

DELVE Begins Next Week!

Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th

We are finally here! After many iterations of DELVE these past few years, we are finally ready to go on DELVE. I know these trips will hold wonderful memories for your child. We firmly believe that the experiences they have will stick with them for a lifetime. We also hope that each child will feel challenged in their thinking as they work with the different organisations and cultures and understand these local environments to a much deeper level. We know that service and engagement in local communities actually change who we are as we develop empathy and gratitude for the incredibly blessed lives we live.

We look forward to hearing from each of our trips and students. As a reminder, if there is a need to contact your child throughout the week, please feel free to call Peter Assimakopoulos (099 540 1474) so we can relay a message to your child’s DELVE teacher (there will be times when some groups do not have mobile coverage).

Once again, a special thanks to the many hands that have made DELVE work with the constraints that we have been working with over the past months and we wish our students a fantastic experience over the coming week.

Junior and Senior Seminars have finished for the year.

University counselors are working individually with grade 11 students to review their draft university essays and talking with them about the university application list. Please be sure to speak to your grade 11 student about crafting a balanced and diversified university application list.

We are seeing lots of smiles and looks of relief on the faces of the grade 12 students. Please remind your child to complete their check out form by getting all of the required signatures before next week. University counselors will see the seniors one more time on 26 May for the final send off.  Please note, final ISB transcripts will be sent out in June to the universities that students have indicated on their check out form.

News from HS Counselors

Jackie Valenzuela

Please join us and sign up HERE  for an in-person counselor presentation. The topic will be of a serious nature, but one that is important to talk about. We will discuss teenage mental health and specifically, suicide.

Exacerbated by Covid, adolescent suicides and attempts have been on the rise across the world. While there are many protective factors in place to support our students at home and school, no one is immune.

We will cover warning signs, causes, myths and facts and protective factors. In addition there will be an opportunity for small group discussion and a question/answer time.

Honest conversations about adolescent suicide are difficult, but necessary. We hope you will join us.

When: Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 8am
Where: CC Building – Theatre

**Please take an ATK test prior to arriving on campus. Proceed to the guard desk in front of the business office once on campus and fill out a declaration form provided to you at that time.**

Leaving Panther Parents (REPEAT)

Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th

Dear Leaving Panther Parents,

We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, May 26th for an interactive discussion about transitions and how to leave Thailand well.  And how to arrive at your next destination well, whether it be a return home or another chapter in your international life and travels.  It’s such a complicated time in your students’ (and probably your) lives, and we’ve got a few ideas to share. We will also make space for all of our parent participants to share their own experience and to help each other make the transition a healthy one for you and yours.

We hope that you can make it on the 26th at 1:30 in the Chevron Theater for about an hour of learning and sharing positive transition next steps in the lives for you and your children.  Please rsvp, so that we can plan for the appropriate amount of parents attending.  When we hear from you we’ll give you details on how to gain access to campus.  Thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th!

Sincerely,

Kevin Callahan kevinc@isb.ac.th
