Message from HS Principal

Hi Everyone,
A long weekend to look forward to and then four days of ‘regular’ school before the exam period starts for our Grade 9-11 students followed by the excitement of DELVE.
A reminder that as there are limited exams taking place for Grade 9 and 10 students, exams for Grade 9 and 10 students will take place only on Monday May 23rd, Tuesday May 24th and Wednesday May 25th. Grade 9 and Grade 10 students will attend school as normal on Thursday and Friday of that week. Grade 11 students have more exams to sit and therefore their exam period runs from Monday May 23rd through until Friday May 27th.
Students need to wear their school uniform when attending exams, but are permitted to leave campus once they have completed their exams for that day.
Enjoy the weekend.
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Please join us and sign up HERE for an in-person counselor presentation. The topic will be of a serious nature, but one that is important to talk about. We will discuss teenage mental health and specifically, suicide.
Exacerbated by Covid, adolescent suicides and attempts have been on the rise across the world. While there are many protective factors in place to support our students at home and school, no one is immune.
We will cover warning signs, causes, myths and facts and protective factors. In addition there will be an opportunity for small group discussion and a question/answer time.
Honest conversations about adolescent suicide are difficult, but necessary. We hope you will join us.
When: Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 8am
Where: CC Building – Theatre
**Please take an ATK test prior to arriving on campus. Proceed to the guard desk in front of the business office once on campus and fill out a declaration form provided to you at that time.**
If you forgot to sign up above, please do so now HERE . Thank you.
Leaving Panther Parents
Kevin Callahan

Dear Leaving Panther Parents,
We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, May 26th for an interactive discussion about transitions and how to leave Thailand well. And how to arrive at your next destination well, whether it be a return home or another chapter in your international life and travels. It’s such a complicated time in your students’ (and probably your) lives, and we’ve got a few ideas to share. We will also make space for all of our parent participants to share their own experience and to help each other make the transition a healthy one for you and yours.
We hope that you can make it on the 26th at 1:30 in the Chevron Theater for about an hour of learning and sharing positive transition next steps in the lives for you and your children. Please rsvp, so that we can plan for the appropriate amount of parents attending. When we hear from you we’ll give you details on how to gain access to campus. Thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th!
Sincerely,
Kevin Callahan kevinc@isb.ac.th, High School Counselor
Kevin Nelson kevinn@isb.ac.th, Middle School Counselor

The final Parent Coffee of the year will be on Friday, 20 May, @ 9:00 AM in the MS Skybox. The university counselors will host our 15th and final parent coffee for the 2021-22 academic year. We’ve covered a wide variety of topics, and we’re thankful for the great turnouts, albeit on Zoom. Here are the session topics we have presented:
- Intro to University Counseling @ ISB
- Standardized Testing
- Rankings
- US Higher Education 101
- Studying in the UK; Applying Through UCAS
- Studying in Canada
- Studying in the Netherlands
- Studying in Hong Kong
- Studying in Australia
- Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai Community Coffees
- Financing Higher Education
Fortunately, for our final meeting, we will be able to see you in person on campus. We’re excited to see you in the Skybox, which is located in the middle school. As the majority of our time will be spent answering questions, we ask that you go ahead and ask them in the Google Form. Of course, you can ask additional and follow-up questions at the event.
To enter campus, parents will need to have received a negative result from an ATK COVID test and complete the “event” form, which is a QR code they will scan at the front gate the day of the event.
Junior Seminars have finished for the year. But, every grade 11 student should schedule a meeting with their counselor to discuss their draft university essay or personal statement and to review their “Universities I am Considering” list on Maia Learning. Please keep in mind that university counselors will be encouraging students to have a balanced and diversified list of institutions on their application list. Students should be aspirational as well as realistic regarding their admissibility to specific universities and be careful to select universities that are not the same ones as everyone else to broaden their opportunities for admissions. Please confirm with your child that he/she has scheduled a meeting with his/her counselor.
Seniors have until Thursday, 26 May to complete their check out form with all the appropriate signatures. Please encourage your senior to check in with his/her university counselor to complete that form and update Calfo with their counselor to confirm where the final ISB transcript needs to be sent.
