RSVP for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony next week – Feb 28th

By: Shelley Bragg, Director of Marketing and Communications
shelleyb@isb.ac.th

Next week, on Tuesday, February 28th, ISB will host the Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the launch of the new Intensive Learning Needs Classroom. We are honored to have Khun Ploypailin Jensen presiding over the ceremony.

Date:             Tuesday, February 28th
Time:            8.45am – 10am
Location:    ES MPR, ISB

The Intensive Learning Needs program at ISB is unlike any other program in Bangkok. It offers children with diagnosed developmental or intellectual disability (e.g. Global Developmental Delay, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy) the opportunity to learn with a highly trained special education teacher within the international school setting of ISB. They will receive a highly individualized curriculum focusing on functional academics and life skills and are also integrated with typically developing peers to the maximum extent appropriate.

The first class will begin in August 2017 and we are pleased to share our new space and more information about the program with our ISB community and with the media and special guests.

We hope you will join us to launch this exciting and worthwhile new program.
Food and refreshments will be served and catered by: Steps with Theera

Please RSVP with Khun LeAnne: piyanuck@isb.ac.th

Art, Dance, Drama and Tech Showcase  – 5:30pm February 27

By: Anthony Giles, PK-12 Arts & Activities Director
anthonyg@isb.ac.th

The ISB Art, Dance, Drama and Tech IASAS delegates are proud to present their final showcase to the community on February 27 at 5:30pm in the CC Theatre and Foyer. The process of creating and presenting is highly vulnerable for any artist.  Our ISB artists have been rehearsing, scripting, choreographing, creating, drafting, painting, sculpting, and editing to be performance/exhibition ready for this year’s IASAS at ISKL.  We are very proud of the hard work our students have put into the process this year. Please come out and celebrate their creative success on the Monday.

Final Day to register your child for the 2017 North Bangkok Basketball Association (NBBL) season

By: Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

Registration will close on Friday, February 24th at 3:00pm.  Once registration is closed, new players will only be permitted to register if there is space on teams and will incur a THB 500 late registration penalty.

The fee is THB 3,600 for all players.   Players do NOT need to be ISB students but all games and practices take place at ISB.

League assessments will be held on Sunday, February 26th between 12:00pm and 4:00pm at ISB gyms.  An exact schedule will be sent out to all registered players and their parents.

Team practices will begin the week starting March 6th.  League play will take place on Saturdays and begin on March 11th.  Games will continue every Saturday (except for Songkran break) and conclude the weekend of May 19th/20th with league championships.

We will use Top Flight Academy to hold weekly clinics for all ages.  The clinics will either be on Tuesday or Thursday depending upon how many players register, Some coaches may also choose to hold a weekly team practice.

We will need many parents to help out as coaches in order for the league to function.  Parents only need to coach the teams at Saturday games since we have Top Flight running weekday practices.  But if we don’t have enough parent volunteers for a league we will not be able to offer basketball for that particular age group.  So we strongly encourage all parents to sign up to help coach.

Payment for the NBBL season can be made at Community Activity Office (CAO) which is located next to the bookstore at ISB.  The CAO is open from 7:00 to 11:00AM and 12:00 to 3:30PM Monday –Friday.

Please go to the NBBL website at https://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for the link to our registration system and for other important information.

If you have any questions, please contact Kevin Sypolt at ksypolt@gmail.com

Rh Negative Blood Database

By: ISB Nurse
nurse@isb.ac.th

In Thailand, most people have a Rhesus positive blood group. This leads to a limited supply of Rhesus negative blood.

We are often getting requests for people who are Rhesus negative to donate blood for people requiring blood transfusion (usually due to trauma or severe illness).

At ISB, we have set up a database of staff who are Rhesus negative and are eligible and willing to donate blood.

We have decided to open this up to the ISB community. Having this database will mean we can email those willing to donate and have the correct blood group when we have a request for blood. It also means that if anyone on the database needs blood we have a list of potential donors. If you are a Rh negative blood group and would be willing at times to donate, please send me an email with your ABO group (and stating you are Rh negative), your gender and your email address and I will add you to the database.  Your information will be kept on the database and not given to anyone else. If your type of blood is required we will send you an email in which the recipients are BCC with the details of the required blood donation. You will then have a choice whether you want to follow up with donating or not. If you are on the database there is no pressure for you to donate…..it is always up to you. At anytime you can reply to an email and get your name taken off the database.

To donate you should be:

  • between the ages of 17-55.
  • weigh at least 45 kg (99 lbs).

Donating is not advised if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Gave birth or had a miscarriage in the past six months.
  • Had diarrhea in the past seven days.
  • Had dental treatment in the past three days.
  • Had major surgery in the past six months or minor surgery in the past seven days.
  • Have a history of drug use or been imprisoned in the past three years.
  • Received a blood transfusion in the past year.
  • Visited any area where malaria is endemic in the past year or actually had malaria in the past three years.
  • Resided in the UK for more than 6 months during the period 1986-1999.
  • Have tested positive for hepatitis B or C in the past.
  • Have asthma, epilepsy, chronic skin disease, chronic cough, tuberculosis, allergies, high blood pressure, heart/kidney/thyroid disease, cancer, bleeding disorder, etc.
  • Have had ear/body piercings, tattoos made or removed, or acupuncture in the past year.
  • Have received any vaccinations in the past two months except seasonal Flu vaccine.
  • Have received a serum injection in the past year
