ES Parent Teacher Conferences Oct. 3-4, 2013

As you know, Parent conferences are coming up very soon.  This year we are trialing two important changes with conferences:

1.  Involving students in the conference. The research is clear – involving students in the learning and assessment process, providing them with clear feedback and the opportunity to engage with ideas for further growth has a positive impact on learning.  Having students attend conferences with parents is one way to do this.  This year, some teachers will be offering the opportunity for parents to bring their child to the conference.  As this is a pilot, we are intentionally wanting some teachers to not involve students.  We will be inviting your feedback following the pilot.

If your child’s teacher is electing to invite students to attend conferences, they will be in contact with you shortly.  Whether you decide to do this is up to you as a family.

2.  Online scheduling of conferences.  In your child’s Friday Folder today, you will find an important document that outlines how to register with our online conference scheduler, Pick-a-Time.  This letter contains the username and password for your child.  Please be aware that EACH child in ES has a separate username and password.  The program will be open from Monday afternoon.

International Day 2013 – A Great Big Beautiful World

Nicole Wright  and Sharane Sherman

ESCoord@isb.ac.th

International Day is just around the corner on Friday October 11!  The students begin celebrations by wearing t-shirts to school on Wednesday 9th  and Thursday 10th that relate to a country or nationality.   On Friday, students wear an International costume: simple, traditional, colourful – all are welcome.

Parents are invited to watch ES students proudly parade from the field to the Chevron Theatre in their country outfits from 7.30am on International Day.   Students then participate in an Assembly  (streamed live for parents at locations on campus).  The remainder of the day is spent rotating around country themed rooms in classrooms. This year we have 32 rooms. Mark your calendars and talk to your child about costume ideas for this truly special day.

Photo Request For International Day

As we prepare for our annual International Day festivities, we are calling for photos you may have of your children and family out enjoying “Our Big Beautiful World”. We will be using these photos in an all ES display on International Day. The photo you provide needs to showcase a particular place in the world that’s easy to recognize. Please send one electronic photo with your child’s name and location to Vera Day at verad@isb.ac.th on or before October 3rd, 2013.

As stated on p. 32 of the Parent Student Handbook, ISB is a nut-free campus. We have many students at our school with serious nut allergies. In order to keep them safe, we do not allow any kind of nuts on our campus at any time. This includes the snacks and lunches that you might send to school with your child. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our children safe.

After School Supervision – Reminder
