Hello Parents and Students,

Happy new year!  We hope you were able to rest and recharge during our break. We will launch virtual school tomorrow at 10am.   We thank you for your flexibility, support and understanding while we establish our virtual learning routines.  We are sharing our schedule for the first few days.  We will share a more detailed and specific schedule soon.  This schedule will include regular small group instruction opportunities for your child. We want you to know that we will be working day and night to ensure your child has the best experience possible.   A shift from last year will be a larger focus on synchronous learning VS asynchronous learning.  We will share details this week.  If at anytime, you have questions or concerns, please contact us immediately via email.  edh@isb.ac.th  lindae@isb.ac.th

Thank you for coming to ISB to pick up materials for your child.  Your child will be familiar with the apps we will use in the coming weeks and is already logged into our class seesaw app.  We have included a new stylus in the materials you picked up.  This stylus is different from what your child has been using.  Below is an infographic that will teach you and your child how to use this new tool.  Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourselves.

For the first 2 days, we will meet in two groups.  Ants and Bees.  We have shared the groups below. Please take note of if your child is an Ant or a Bee.   Mr. Hagen will meet with the Bees and Ms. Eide will meet with the Ants.  Here are our meeting room addresses.  If you know how to bookmark these addresses on your child’s I-pad, please do so right away.  If not, we will be sharing how to add these addresses as home-screen buttons in the coming days.

There will be a gradual launch and expansion of academic expectations. The first week will intentionally focus on setting students up for virtual school success.  Please be patient as routines and systems are established.  After this week, expect about 115 minutes of synchronous learning each day across 4-6 sessions.  Students receiving learning support or EAP services may receive more instructional minutes each week.

Before 10am on Monday:

  • determine if your child is an ant or bee
  • find a space where your child can prop his/her I-pad so that he/she can be seen and heard
  • review and understand our schedule for Monday and Tuesday
  • ensure your child’s I-pad is charged and connected to your wifi network
  • ensure you and your child know when he/she will need to attend a zoom sessions on Monday and Tuesday

HOME-LEARNING SPACE

Please begin thinking about the kind of space and materials your child will need.  Here are things we will be asking you to consider:

  • Find somewhere peaceful, where there will not be too many distractions/too much noise in the background (this is especially important for live Zoom meetings).

  • Make sure you have a place at a table.

  • You should have a chair or stool to sit on, but if you need a break from sitting you could also stand up while you do some of your working.

  • Your table should be big enough to set up your iPad and also be able to use paper for writing and drawing.

  • You might want your table to be near a wall where you could hang things that help you learn (like signs, number charts, and word charts).

  • You will need:  (These items were sent home with your child’s I-pad)

    • paper

    • pencils, markers

    • white board, eraser, white board marker

  • Do not bring too much into your space.  You want the space to feel calm, and you also want to be able to find what you need.

See you soon!  Mr. Hagen and Ms. Eide.
