Mr. Hagen’s Reading Group – Read commonlit_two-famous-friends_student and think about these questions.  You may need to ask an adult to explain the questions to you.  This is nonfiction about two very famous leaders.  If you cannot understand the questions, it’s OK!  We will talk about them.

Throughout their friendship, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams often stood on opposing sides of political debates despite their personal friendship. How is Jefferson and Adams’ ability to disagree with each other an important part of democracy?

The author describes Jefferson and Adams as having a rocky relationship. Would you consider them friends, despite the long break they took from keeping in touch? Why or why not?

After a long silent period, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were able to repair their friendship. What does it take to forgive? Describe a time when you had a disagreement with a friend, but were able to resolve it.

Come to our reading prepared to share your thinking.  This week’s readings are all about friendship.
