Mr. Hagen’s Reading Group – Read commonlit_the-rescue-of-the-tin-woodman_student and think about these questions:

Are you surprised that Dorothy helped the Tin Woodman? Why or why not? Would you have helped a tin man if you encountered him in the woods?

How do Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodman act friendly towards one another? Would you consider them friends? Why or why not? Have you ever helped a friend as Dorothy helped the Tin Woodman?

Do you think Dorothy was brave to go into the woods? Why or why not? Describe a time when you were brave.

Come to our reading prepared to share your thinking.  This week’s readings are all about friendship.

Reading – Act out a favorite scene with puppets.   The lesson is about 5 minutes long.  If you’d like to learn how to use the Puppet Pals HD app, keep watching for another 6 minutes.  There is a place to scan a QR code or pause the video and take a screen shot.

Writing – Complete the activity in seesaw called poetry publishing.  This is an exciting week! This week YOU get to choose how you would like to publish your poetry. We would like for you to share at least 3 poems. You can choose how do to this. You can publish with: Camera and Microphone, Book Creator, PicCollage or other apps.

We would like you to be finished publishing your poems by THURSDAY so you can share them with your class during your Friday morning meeting. Also, on Friday we will have an optional POETRY SLAM for anyone to share your poems with the WHOLE second grade in ZOOM.

These 2 videos are also linked in the seesaw activity.  Please watch the video in the activity first.

Social Studies – Rings of Responsibility.  Students will learn the importance of what they do online. Complete the seesaw activity called “digital safety”

SEL/Mindfulness – Daily Questions: Use these questions to connect with your family. Tonight or every night, ask your family these questions. Sometimes we need to find the beauty or find gratitude in a difficult situation.
