Hello Team Families,

We have had a busy few weeks in grade 2.  Here are some updates we want to share with you:

“Out of School Uniform” Day will be this Friday, December 13th

Early Dismissal December 20th: 11:30am

Thank you

Thank you Berger Family and Dutsdeenoad/Tripornchaisak Family for buying the class friendship bracelets for inclusive schools week.

Class Party

We will have a winter celebration on Friday December 20th from 10:30-11:30.  Our room parent, Kim Berger, will be organizing this fun event.  If you’re interested in helping, please contact her via email:  thebergerfamily4@gmail.com

Reminders:

Please write your child’s name on his/her water bottle and hat.

Please talk to your child about bringing toys to school.  We discourage our students from bringing toys and instead encourage them in nurturing friendship and playing with one another during recess.

What are we learning?

Writing

We are completing our realistic fiction stories.  Students have created a character and thought of realistic traits, problems, families, worries, likes, etc.  This lead to the development of a realistic problem and solution.  Students will be illustrating and publishing their books digitally in the coming week.  Ask you child about his/her story.  We have put a lot of time and effort creating these stories.

Reading

Our class has been focusing on conversations about our reading.  Students have been learning basic conversation skills to use when sharing and talking about the thinking they have around shared reading.  Some of our conversations moves:  paraphrasing, questioning, adding on, agreeing/disagreeing, revising our thinking.

Math

In math we have been working on three main things:  geometry, fractions, and telling time.  Telling time is something not all kids this age can do yet.  We will be working in small groups on time telling skills.  At the end of the year, 2nd graders should be able to tell time to the nearest 5 minutes.  This will be an ongoing area of focus in math.

Social Studies

We are continuing our study of communities.  We have been acquainting ourselves with members of the ISB community and learning about the various roles they play.  Next, we will study urban, suburban, and rural communities.
