Dear Families,
We are all looking forward to Intercultural Week next week! This is a week for us to celebrate our diversity as well as the many things that we have in common. Monday-Thursday, students are encouraged to wear t-shirts from places around the world. On Friday, they can wear traditional dress from their home culture, or any outfit that reflects cultures they identify with. We hope to see you at the assembly on Friday, please read the ISB news carefully for more information.
We have been enjoying learning a new style of writing-persuasive. Ask your child what they have been writing about this week. Next week in math we begin a new unit on telling time, shapes and fractions. This is the perfect time in the year to start talking about time in your home. Telling time is developmentally challenging for some kids, here are some things you can do to support your child:
- Buy and hang a big, analog clock somewhere in a common living space. We have ours in the kitchen. Throughout the day, point out and discuss the time during routine times (dinner, bedtime ect)
- Use a timer in your house to support transitions. For example, set the timer for 2 minutes to help your child understand how long to brush their teeth. Or tell them they have 5 minutes left to watch tv, set the timer on your phone and turn off the tv when it buzzes.
- Buy them a watch-preferably an analog one. You don’t need to buy something fancy with a phone, just a simple one to help them begin to pay attention to the clock.
Have a great weekend!
