You’re Invited:
Parents are invited to our writing celebration on Friday October 19th. Please join us from 8-8:30am for a quick and casual opportunity to celebrate the growth your child has experienced as a nonfiction writer. Students have been working hard on writing nonfiction books over the last several weeks and are excited to share them with you. We will provide coffee.
A Visitor:
As part of our continuing partnership with The Rainbow House, we hosted a special visitor from their center. Jinou came and spent the day learning and playing with us, and we look forward to his next visit. We will share more information about The Rainbow House and our upcoming service learning project soon.
From Ms. Kate, Our Counselor:
Dear parents,
Mrs. Kate visited our class this week for a lesson on “identifying feelings and empathy.”
Students pretended to be detectives, and used clues to figure out feelings of others, and then decided if these are comfortable or uncomfortable feelings.
The ability to identify others’ feelings using physical, verbal, and situational clues is essential to developing empathy. Being able to label feelings as comfortable or uncomfortable lays the foundation for coping effectively with difficult emotions. Accurately identifying others’ feelings helps students make friends and avoids conflicts with peers.
This lesson also helps students expand their understanding of emotions. Elementary students may misinterpret how someone feels if they assume others react and feel the same way they would. Understanding that people can have different feelings in similar situations, and that these feelings can change, helps students develop empathy and perspective taking–key requisites for compassion, conflict avoidance, and success with peers.
If you have questions about this please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Kate at katek@isb.ac.th
