Jim Fay and Foster Cline’s Love and Logic parenting techniques are funny and practical.  SAS is offering seminars for parents.  Here is a great video clip of Jim Fay speaking about entitlement.  Here is the information from our counselling department:  There is also an excellent article about schoolwork at the bottom of this post.

Visit the Love and Logic website for more information.

Dear SAS Pudong Parents,
SAS Pudong counselors from the Elementary, Middle and High Schools are proud to present a 6-session parenting workshop entitled “Love and Logic” by Charles Fay, PhD and Jim Fay. The workshop begins on Friday, February 14 (see below for more details).
What is Love and Logic all about?
This 6-session parenting course was developed by the Love and Logic Institute to help parents find specific answers and actions for some of those difficult moments in child rearing. These simple techniques are effective with children of all ages. Parents will learn practical tools and techniques that help them to achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids for the real world.
 Parents will learn to:
– Avoid un-winnable power struggles and arguments
– Stay calm when their kids do incredibly upsetting things
– Set enforceable limits
– Avoid enabling and begin empowering
– Help their kids learn from mistakes rather than repeating them
– Raise kids who are family members rather than dictators
– And much more!
To have the greatest impact on your parenting, it is optimal to commit to all six sessions of this workshop. All sessions will be held on Friday mornings in the LLH. Refreshments will be served at 8:15am.  The workshop session will begin promptly at 8:30am and conclude by 10:30am.
Topics for each session are as follows:
– February 14 – Session 1: Putting an End to Arguing, Back Talk, and Begging…
– February 21 – Session 2: Teaching Responsibility Without Losing their Love
– March 7 – Session 3: Setting Limits Without Waging War
– March 21 – Session 4: Avoiding Power Struggles
– April 11 – Session 5: Guiding Kids to Own and Solve Their Problems
– April 18 – Session 6: Teaching Kids to Complete Chores…Without Reminders and Without Pay
