October 6, 2013
Dear SAS Parents, Faculty and Staff,
I am writing to tell you that with the safety of students, faculty and staff in mind, Shanghai American School will be closed for school and other activities tomorrow, Monday, October 7.
Throughout the day, we continuously monitored the news and other reports regarding projected weather conditions. Because of the projected intensity and impact of Typhoon Fitow, the Chinese Meteorological Association issued a red alert, the highest of a 4-level alert system, indicating a serious potential threat of high winds and flooding. Numerous activities in the city of Shanghai were cancelled by government officials.
I know parents will be concerned about loss of classroom time, however, please know that our teachers will ensure that students will make up for lost time over the coming weeks.
As indicated earlier today, please continue to monitor your email and the school website (www.saschina.org) for further updates.
We will continue to follow the storm throughout the day tomorrow and provide additional information as appropriate.
Sincerely,
Richard W. Mueller
Superintendent
