Good Bye ReadingLogs.com!

4EH has tried to use Readinlogs.com to document our regular and positive habits as readers for the last month.  We are realizing that between the website’s glitches and our China internet issues, it’s time to stop.  Mr. Hagen has contacted the website’s developers numerous times and they are not able to fix the problem.
Students will “submit” their reading logs digitally if they can in the next several days.  Our class will use paper reading logs starting Tuesday September 25th.   Students will be required to complete them legibly on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.  Documenting reading habits is an essential tool for improving reading skills.  Please support children in making this a ritual at home.  Reading outside of these times is encouraged but not required.
Reading outside the classroom ideally should be a combination of reading with an adult, adults reading to children, and a child reading to themselves.  All of these activities can be logged.  4th graders are not too old to be read to by parents!  Mr Hagen suggests reading 150 minutes or more per week. The best way to improve a child’s ability to read is  regularly reading somethings he/she likes that is at his/her independent reading level.
Here is what a reading log looks like:
