Zara Dania Farook
My artwork is three different panels of a girl, slowly lowering a mask in which shes pretending to be happy. I call this piece fake smile. To make this, I went through a series of printing out, tracing over, then screen printing with all three of the layers. I first printed out a picture from google to save time, then I went over it using tracing papers and sharpie, once I did that I made three different screens of the three layers I wanted to print. I struggled a bit in this part, because when I traced I didn’t make the lines dark enough which didn’t let the screens completely wash out so only a few of the lines were visible. After that, I printed the first two of the screens the same on each paper but for the third one, I tilted the paper a little bit to make it seem like the girl was lowering her mask. The main idea I wanted the express was the fact that you don’t have to hide your feelings. It’s a social issue that people who have depression pretend to be perfectly happy. I am happy with how this piece turned out, however it wasn’t as I imagined I wanted it to be.
