REVISED! Unit 8: Progressivism and Imperialism / Homework – Week of March 4 and March 11

Reminder: Current Events were due today – if you forgot to submit yours please bring to class on March 7th and sibe to sub.  The Unit 7: Reconstruction Quiz is on March 7th – please make sure you also study Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois (last page in the reading booklet).

New week, new unit – Progressive Era and American Imperialism. This will not be a long unit and will finally move us into the 20th Century (hurrah!).  You will be responsible (in teams of two or three) for teaching the content (ie in PowerPoint format).  Assignments are as follows:

  • Women’s Suffrage Movement (up to 1920) – Rachel, Rebecca, Jessie  /  Melissa, Skye and Sam
  • Prohibition (up to 1930s) – Chris B, Chris C, Robbie  /  Matt and Eric
  • Labor Reform (up to 1929) – Mitchell D, Ethan
  • Government Reform (up to 1914) – Brandon, Ross, Connor / Evan and Xavi
  • Roosevelt’s Square Deal and Wilson’s New Freedom – Mitchell C, Nathan and George

In the meantime, review America Becomes an Imperial Power powerpoint and read the following pages in your textbook:  548 – 568 (Imperialism) by Monday, March 11th.  I will assign the Progressive Era readings for homework on Wednesday, March 13th  – here is the assignment if you want start early (for the moment you will only read the section related to your presentation):
