Today was “Action Day” in the Middle School. Back in early March, our Grade 7 students embarked on trips around Thailand, learning about “how Thailand balances human needs with environmental needs?” Spread among 7 different trips, students learned about wild elephant conservation, protecting marine life like sea turtles and sharks, sustainable farming, poverty, and trash and recycling projects.
Since then our G7 students have been working in groups to develop Action Plans to support the causes and organizations that they were inspired by and want to help. Today, students showcased those trips and action plan projects in our Action Assembly and Action Fair. In the Assembly, students shared films of the various trips and spoke about some of the projects that came out of those trips. At the Fair, students built awareness, offered fund-raising games, and sold products or food to raise money for particular causes. Special thanks to Mr. Dyke, MS Service Coordinator for planning this big event and pushing the students to plan rich projects. Also, thanks to our Grade 7 teachers for their guidance and work with our students.
It was wonderful to see our students connect with service projects around Thailand and make genuine efforts to make a difference and have a positive impact. As Mr. Dyke shared with our middle school at the Action Assembly,
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
