Updated Recess Guidelines

We have created an updated supplement recess guideline when the heat index reaches between 41-44.9°C. To ensure the health and safety of our students, we have introduced a curriculum in the classroom regarding hydration and sun safety. This includes topics such as the importance of water, using sunscreen, knowing when it’s too hot, identifying dehydration, and how much water students should drink per day.

We have designated shaded areas in Panther Park, Sky Park, Parkour Park, and Prek Patio for students to play. Students will not be able to access the field or other unshaded areas.

To ensure that students have access to sufficient hydration during recess, we ask that you send your student to school with a full water bottle, labeled with their name. Students will refill their water bottles prior to the start of recess and be encouraged  to drink at least four cups of water per day. Additionally, a mandatory structured hydration break will be implemented after 15 minutes of outside play. We will also monitor students who are at high risk due to a medical condition and provide accommodations.

Students who have clinically diagnosed high sensitivity to heat and air pollution need to contact the Health Center in order to request an official accommodation to support a healthy alternative.

We hope that with these measures in place, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our students during recess. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
