Grade 8 Celebration Social
To celebrate the completion of Middle School, we are excited to host our Grade 8 Social. This year the event will take place on Saturday, May 13th, 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Best Western Plus Wanda Grand Hotel on Chang Wattana Road, just across from Central Chang Wattana. There will be food, music, soft drinks, and most importantly, their grade 8 friends. The event is chaperoned by ISB MS teachers and administrators.
Permission forms for students will be available next week for grade 8 students to collect and get signed. The cost per student is 800 baht. We hope that students join this fun event to have fun with their friends and celebrate the near end of their Middle School years.
We will provide bus transportation from ISB to the hotel and back again at the end of the event. There will also be transportation from downtown for those that need it. Students who attend the event will need to stay for the entire event, unless there is communication from the parents identifying their child is leaving earlier.
Please be on the lookout for these permission forms next week.
MS Student Leadership Seminar next Saturday
Sign your child up for the April Student Leadership Seminar!
Our goal for this seminar is to examine the critical leadership quality of empathy. As part of this seminar, we will review the concept of empathy and we will focus on identifying behaviors that demonstrate empathy, as well as “empathy traps” leaders sometimes fall into. Students will practice empathy via fun, interactive activities facilitated in part by our high school International Honor Society students.
This seminar will take place on Saturday, April 29th from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM in the MPB and you can sign your child up here. Please encourage your child to come join the fun- there will be lots of new, hands-on activities and it’s a great opportunity to make new connections. Your child will receive a certificate for participating in this activity.
Beginning Band Drive is back on Saturday, May 6
Date: Saturday, May 6, 2023
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: MS Band Room (4-107) on the first floor of the Cultural Center (CC)
On Saturday, May 6, ISB will hold its annual Beginning Band Drive for current grade 4, 5 and MS students that would like to try different band instruments like the trumpet, saxophone, flute, etc. During this time, students can try out the many different band instruments with the help of experts to find out which instrument they may enjoy and which instrument best suits them. All of the possible band instruments include: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion (drums and mallets).
The ISB Middle School Band program has a reputation as being one of the finest in international schools. This year for the 11th year in a row, and for the 15th out of the past 16 years, ISB has sent more students than any other school to the prestigious AMIS Asian Middle School Honor Band Festival. Student musicians audition for this festival through a rigorous blind audition process, competing with all other IASAS schools as well as international schools in South Korea, China and Japan.
To take part in the Beginning Band Drive on May 6, please sign up using the Google form that can be found linked here. It includes specific time/sign-up information. Finding the right instrument that best suits your child is a very important process.
If you have questions, please feel free to email Brent Poling <brentp@isb.ac.th>.
