Dear High School Parents,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that your children enjoyed your first week back at school after the break. We had a busy week with a number of events taking place which I would love to share with you.

Firstly, we would like to extend our congratulations to all our students who participated in Season Three Athletics Awards night on Tuesday. We are proud to announce that it was a well-attended and successful event, and wish to give a special mention to the Gold winning teams – Boys’ Golf team and the Girls’ Track and Field team. All of our student-athletes showed great sportsmanship and determination throughout the season, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements and their contributions on and off the field.

We would also like to acknowledge our students who made outstanding contributions in the field of service. At the Celebration of Service event on Wednesday evening, we recognized and celebrated their dedication to making a positive impact in our community. Their selfless acts of service serve as an inspiration to us all, and we commend them for their exceptional efforts. Additional thanks are due to Mr. Assimakopoulos and Khun Pat for their oversight and support of our community service program.

Thirdly, we are pleased to report that our students put on a great show at the High School Spring Drama Showcase on Thursday. Our talented students showcased their acting and improvisation skills throughout the 10 acts that were presented. Congratulations to Ms. Augusta Harrison-Denby and her team for supporting our students on the stage!

Lastly, as the school year draws to a close (for our Seniors), we would like to wish our senior students all the best as they enjoy the last few days of school together before the IB/AP Exams begin on April 28th. We are proud of the progress they have made and the hard work they have put in to prepare for their exams. Once exams finish, we all have the Golf Cart parade in Nichada to look forward to (mark your calendars for Saturday, May 20th at 8.45 am) and then of course their graduation on Saturday, May 27th.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Justin Alexander
High School Principal

News from University Counselors

Debbie McDowell
debbiem@isb.ac.th

Please join us in wishing the best for Alex Becker as he will be departing ISB to join the International School of Belgrade next year. Alex has been a valuable member of the ISB university counseling team for four years. We will miss Alex and we are very pleased to announce that Mr. Doug McQueen will be joining ISB next year as a university counselor. Mr. McQueen has been working at the American School in Japan for six years and previously was a counselor at International School Manila. We look forward to welcoming Mr. McQueen to ISB.

Parent University Coffees

We have two university parent coffees left this year. Please  mark your calendar and join us:

Thursday, 27 April: Financing University Studies @ 9:00 AM in MPB 1

Friday, 12 May: Year in Review and Open Forum @ 9:00 AM in MS Skybox

Grade 12
The final Senior Seminar was held this week. The university counselors presented on transitions to university. The students participated in a virtual scavenger hunt using google maps for their own university. Please ask your child what were the major take-aways from this session.  There’s lots of conversations to be had between parents and soon to be graduates about the transition process.

Grade11
The last Junior Seminar of the year was this week. All grade 11 students created an account with Common Application to start the process of university applications. If students are not applying to the US, this is a great practice application to get prepared for their future applications. For those applying to the US, this will be the platform used for many of their applications.  Students who are considering university in the UK, they registered for the UCAS Hub which will be where they will access their application for universities in the UK. Students were also given the opportunity to register for the Concourse online application.  Please speak to your child about their plans for application next year. The student’s rough draft of their university application essay was due this week.  Students should be setting an appointment with their university counselor in the next few weeks to discuss their essay and future university plans.

SAT Registration deadline for the 6 May exam is today, 21 April. Deadline for the 3 June exam is 19 May.

Students have access to four, full-length practice tests in Bluebook™, the new digital testing app. Encourage them to download Bluebook now so they’ll have plenty of time to prepare. Students also have access to Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy®

Upcoming University Visits:

Thursday, 11 May, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) 11:00-11:40 @ HS Conference Room

Thursday, 18 May, Sogang University (Korea), 11:00-11:40 @ HS Conference Room

Please encourage your child to consistently check the Virtual and Off Campus University Events spreadsheet to know what’s available. Please note that pre-registration is needed for some events.

Please check the ISB University/College Counseling website for useful information. You will find university research tools, transition resources for students and parents, recordings and slide shows from Parent Coffees and family presentations, virtual and off campus university visits, information about testing and how to sign up for the SAT at ISB, a list of summer programs about which the counselors have been informed, and the ISB School Profile.

Kindly,
Debbie

The counseling team hopes your child had an enjoyable and restful Songkran break. This week we continued to meet with students to check their well-being. As the school year draws near, students are working on ending the semester strong. However, we understand some students may need more support meeting the coursework demands. If you feel your child has difficulties coping with stress, don’t hesitate to get in touch with their counselor. At ISB, we care deeply about providing social-emotional support. We’re happy to collaborate with families!
