School Closed for Songkran Break

ISB joins Thailand in celebrating the Thai New Year with the Songkran holiday. ISB will be closed April 10-14, with classes resuming on Monday, April 17th. We wish all families a restful break and hope that students will make the most of the quality time with family.

Students should not have home learning during this break, however, if students are behind on work and need to catch up, this break can be a good time to do so. Without new work coming in, students can spend a little time during the break ensuring they are caught up.

As always, the best thing students can be doing for themselves and their learning during the break is to READ, READ, READ. Parents can model this themselves and everyone in the family can put devices away and enjoy reading books.

Have a wonderful break and we will see you on April 17th!

MS Schedule after the break

We are all excited for the well-deserved, week-long break. ISB will be closed next week and classes will resume on Monday, April 17th. Please note that the Wednesday of that week is an early release day and students will be dismissed at 1:10 PM.

Here’s the schedule for the week of April 17-21:

  • Monday, April 17 – Day 3
  • Tuesday, April 18 – Day 4
  • Wednesday, April 19 – Day 5, Early Release Day, dismissal at 1:10 PM
  • Thursday, April 20 – Day 6
  • Friday, April 21 – Day 7

HAPPY SONGKRAN!

Chewing gum not permitted in MS

The MS Student Handbook states that, “Gum chewing is not allowed.” Unfortunately, recently, we have had a surge in students chewing gum during the school day. This has led to gum finding its way onto shoe bottoms and on school furniture. Unfortunately, this has added to our cleaning team’s work, which we do not want. Scraping someone else’s gum off of tables, chairs, and bleachers in the gym is not pleasant work.

We are communicating reminders about these guidelines to students, but wanted to keep parents in the loop as well for consistency. Please help communicate to your children that gum is not allowed at school.  Your help is appreciated.

“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” May 11-13 CCT

This May, the ISB Middle School Drama is excited to bring to life the world-famous characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the whole Peanuts gang! It’s time for the musical production “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”! Come join us as the characters step out of the comics and on to the stage. Each one has a moment or two to share with us, just like the panels of a comic strip. Sometimes silly, sometimes serious, sometimes crazy… it’s a world of misfits, but somehow they all learn what it really means to find happiness– by being together. Buy tickets starting May 25, Tuesday, before school or at lunch! Seating is limited, so buy in advance. “Don’t want to be late!”  Students 100฿, Adults 200฿ Performances on Thursday May 11 (3:30pm afterschool), Friday May 12 (6:00pm evening), and Saturday (2:00pm matinee).  – Danny Wall

ISB Pathways Program and Careers Fair

Dear ISB Community,

We are two eleventh-grade students who are relaunching an event that ISB used to host pre-COVID, Pathways. Please read on for more information.

The ISB Pathways Program seeks to better connect our students with alumni and friends of ISB, who are making a difference through their work in the real world. Through Pathways, we will develop a bank of contact information for individuals with a variety of career experiences for our students to be able to reach out to, collaborate with, and learn from. ISB has offered successful career internship programs for years and career resources through our counseling department but Pathways provides a chance for us to expand our efforts and better utilize our extensive network of alumni, parents, and partner businesses to serve our students better.

ISB is hosting a Pathways Career Fair for high school students and we are asking current professionals or businesses in Thailand to host a table on June 7, 2023. It is a chance to promote your company and your programs and share your experiences and expertise with students currently navigating their choices of study and career.

Please register your interest in supporting this initiative HERE. Deadline: April 30, 2023

We would love your contribution!

Amandine Massard and Ayaka Bijl

Repeat Announcement: Midsemester Comments are in PowerSchool

REPEAT posting from last week:

Earlier this week, teacher feedback comments were posted on PowerSchool for each student from each of their teachers. This formative feedback provides students with areas of strength and areas to target improvement for the remainder of the semester.

For easier access to the comments, we have posted the comments into a single Comments PDF that parents and students can download. The document (like report cards) is password protected and the password is provided to you in PowerSchool. You do not have to click on each class to view the feedback.

This week students were provided time to read through their comments and reflect on areas to attend to during the second half of the term.
