Dear Parents,

Our students and faculty have enjoyed Spirit Week this week which will culminate in our Baseball/Softball and badminton teams playing at home on Friday night whilst our Track and Field student-athletes are competing in a track meet in Taipei over the weekend. We wish all of our players all the best in these tournaments as they continue their preparations for the upcoming Season 3 IASAS tournament weekend in late March.

As we look ahead to the next few weeks at ISB, it is worth mentioning a couple of upcoming meetings for our parents.

  2. HS Parent meeting: Tuesday, March 28th, 9.30 am where Peter Assimakopoulos and the HS admin team will be sharing an overview of the feedback on the DELVE trips and some adjustments for the coming school year. We will share more details (including the registration link) in next week’s ENews.

  3. Friday, March 24th, 8 am. HS Office – Fourth Friday of the month chat with Justin. For parents who want to drop in for a chat, ask a question about any HS event/activity, etc you are very welcome to come past and grab a coffee and join me. I will be in the HS office conference room from 8-9 am.

We wish all of our student-athletes good luck in their competitions this weekend. You can see the game times etc by clicking HERE.

Grade 11

Next week marks the end of the Junior Led Conferences. All grade 11 students and parents should have participated in their meeting with the university counselor by 24 March. These have been very positive and provided a great deal of insight into the plans of each student. Congratulations to the students who have successfully completed their presentation.

Grade 12

The next Senior Seminar will be next week on Tuesday, 21 March. It will be great to be able to hear from students about their university results and have them update their Maia Learning platform as well as give them a chance to reflect on the Junior and Senior Seminar program by completing a University Counseling Survey. We look forward to hearing from the seniors!

Counselor Professional Development and Travel

The University Counselors are focused on keeping up with the current trends and connecting with other professionals in the field of university admissions. Ms McDowell was a member of a panel at the International School Asian Conference here in Bangkok on Tuesday where she spoke about developing students’ soft skills which will impact their university applications and success after high school. Mr. Becker attended the International School Counselors Association Conference here in Bangkok at the end of this week. Also next week, Wednesday through Friday, Ms Shrestha will be attending the International School Counselors Conference at Cambridge University in the UK.  In addition, Mr. Nichols, Mr. Becker and Ms McDowell will be attending the Thai University Counselors Association meeting at NIST next Friday.  One topic on that agenda is the planning of the Greater Bangkok Fairs for September 2023.  We are grateful to ISB for sponsoring the university counselors and allowing us to attend these important events.

STEEL PANTHERS WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Peter Kratz
peterk@isb.ac.th

The Steel Panthers were able to win the Thai National Championship for VEX robotics at St Andrew’s over the March 4th Weekend. We were not only the tournament champions but were also the National Skills Champions scoring a total of 290 points. The next closest school in Thailand only scored a total of 100 points. Our toughest match of the day happened we had to compete against our own teams in the quarter-finals which ended up being the highest-score match of the entire tournament. All of our teams had fun and learned a lot. Our two championship teams have been invited to the VEX World Championship in Dallas, Texas at the end of April. Congrats Steel Panthers! Good luck at the Worlds. We are proud to announce that the Steel Panthers have emerged victorious in the Thai National Championship for VEX robotics held at St. Andrew’s on the weekend of March 4th. The team not only claimed the tournament championship but also secured the National Skills Championship, earning an impressive total of 290 points. In comparison, the closest school in Thailand only scored 100 points.

The Steel Panthers faced their toughest challenge in the quarter-finals when they had to compete against their own teams. However, this turned out to be the highest-scoring match of the entire tournament, and all teams had a lot of fun and learned a great deal.

We are thrilled to share that the Steel Panthers’ two championship teams have been invited to participate in the VEX World Championship in Dallas, Texas, which will take place at the end of April. Congratulations to the Steel Panthers on their incredible achievement and best of luck at the Worlds!

Temporary Guardianship Form (Repeat)

Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

ISB requires all students to be in full-time residence with at least one of their parents while attending ISB.

ISB understands that parents may need to leave town on a short term basis for a variety of reasons. In these situations parents must appoint a temporary guardian to supervise their child. Please note that household help (i.e. maebann or driver) and school aged siblings are not suitable guardians.

Parents need to inform the divisional office if they will be leaving their child with a guardian. In order to create a common, streamlined approach, this has now moved into an Operoo form. If you are ever away from home, please complete the form in your Operoo account through the Form Library or via these links:
