Belonging at ISB

Dear ISB Community,

ISB is dedicated to providing an environment where all members of our community feel that they truly belong.  Part of this work includes providing a safe environment for all of our students where they know that they are able to be themselves and learn and grow.

Bullying happens everywhere–we are under no delusions that it never happens at ISB.  But while it may not be as prevalent at ISB as it is in many other places, we want to ensure that students have the best culture possible that is safe and that our policies and procedures are consistently articulated and applied.  In addition, we want to build the capacity of our students to be upstanders while they are at ISB and beyond.

To this end, ISB has committed to working with No Bully by Power of Zero.  This will include working to articulate our vision, review our policies and procedures, train our staff, work with parents, and work toward eliminating bullying while addressing issues in a solution oriented manner.

We will be working directly with our consultant and a guiding team to define and articulate our vision; reviewing our policies and practices, considering our Social Emotional Learning programs, and reflecting on how things are going.  We have a team guiding this work made up of parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.

Right now, we are working to collect ideas that will help us articulate our vision for how we treat one another at ISB to ensure that everyone feels they belong, feel welcome, and an important part of our community.  Our Guiding team parent reps will be sharing opportunities for you to share your thoughts as we gather these ideas to craft a statement.

There will be learning opportunities for parents next fall and we will be doing training for our faculty and staff as well.

All the best,

DebiDeputy Head of School for Learning
