Cultural Convention

Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

We welcomed back students and teachers after the February break to a jam-packed week filled with the first week of training for our Varsity and Junior Varsity Season 2 athletes and also to the IASAS Cultural Convention (CC) Showcases.

Thank you to the parents who joined our teaching faculty and fellow students in enjoying the skills and talents of our CC delegates this week at the Showcase events on campus. Fantastic performances, debates, and presentations were shared by our Dance, Drama, Music, Forensics, and Debate teams with great support from our IASAS CC Tech team. We wish all of our delegates and their coaches all the best for their trips next week to JIS (Music), ISKL (Dance, Drama, and Tech), and TAS (Forensics and Debate).

Friday, March 3rd will also see our second-semester Student-Parent-Teacher conferences take place in the Rajendra. Registration and sign-up details were sent to all parents prior to the break with registration closing on Wednesday, March 1st in the morning. In order to ensure balanced numbers in each session, parents must register and sign up for a slot if they wish to attend. If you have any questions about signing up for the conferences, please refer to the earlier email about conferences or contact Khun Arisa at arisap@isb.ac.th. This a reminder that there are no HS classes on Friday Mach 3rd and that students are required to attend the conferences with their parents (unless the student is attending the CCs).

Have a great weekend and I hope to see you at the IFF on Saturday afternoon.

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Tardies and Absences
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

This week concludes the end of the first six weeks of semester two. Tardies are counted throughout the semester via six week intervals, at the end of each six week interval, the tardy counts are checked and tallied.  If a student has 1-2 tardies there is no consequence, tardies that are excessive of this amount receive a tiered response.

Students and their parents who have had excessive tardies will be receiving an email today outlining the consequences that will take place next week.

We will also be sending out an update on Monday for any student who has 5 or more absences in one or more of their classes. Students who exceed 7 absences in a single class during a semester will lose credit, therefore it is important that parents regularly check PowerSchool and have conversations with their child to ensure that their attendance is within the boundaries of receiving credit.

Temporary Guardianship Form
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

ISB requires all students to be in full-time residence with at least one of their parents while attending ISB.

ISB understands that parents may need to leave town on a short term basis for a variety of reasons. In these situations parents must appoint a temporary guardian to supervise their child. Please note that household help (i.e. maebann or driver) and school aged siblings are not suitable guardians.

Parents need to inform the divisional office if they will be leaving their child with a guardian. In order to create a common, streamlined approach, this has now moved into an Operoo form. If you are ever away from home, please complete the form in your Operoo account through the Form Library or via these links:

News from College University

Debbie McDowell
debbiem@isb.ac.th

Thank you to the parents who joined us for Parent Coffees this week.  We reviewed the Study in the Netherlands on Tuesday and Study in Hong Kong and Singapore on Thursday. Those presentations are available on the university counseling website. Next week on Tuesday, 28 February, at 9:00 AM in MPB 1, we will be presenting Study in Australia.  Please join us for this if your child is interested in applying to university in Australia.

One of the university counselors, Mr. Nichols, will be out of the office next week while he is participating in a Korean university tour. He will be visiting ten universities with counselors from other schools in Asia. We look forward to his return and the information he will be sharing with families in the future.

Grade 11

Junior Seminar # 7 was on Friday. The counselors reviewed the type of essays that students will be expected to write for their university applications. Students were given the assignment of beginning to outline and write their first rough draft of university application essays.  This is a major task and will need to be done and revised multiple times before they submit their applications in their senior year. It’s best to get started now!

SAT Registration for the March SAT

Today (Friday, February 24) is the last day to register for the next SAT test date on March 11. Students must download the app on their computer to be ready to take the test on that Saturday. We will have two more SAT test dates at ISB this semester, on May 6 (deadline to register is April 21) and June 3 (deadline to register is May 19). Moving forward, the SAT is digital. You can find more information about this change here: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/digital. For any other questions, please be in touch with Ms. Shrestha, the SAT coordinator for the ISB test center: swatis@isb.ac.th

Junior Led Conferences are still ongoing. All grade 11 students should have already scheduled their appointment with their counselor and parents by now. These meetings are expected to be completed by 24 March. Please ask your child about your meeting if you have not already attended the session.
