A Special GR12 eNews

Dear Students and Parents,

I wanted to share with you a few updates for the semester with important information regarding IB and AP exams and the last days of classes for Gr12 students, so that you can plan your dates ahead of time.

Mock Exams for Gr12 Students

IB and AP Mock exams will be held between March 9th – 17th.  We are in the process of finalising the Mock Exam schedule and will share this information with students and parents as soon as possible.  Mock exams are a requirement for all students registered for AP/IB exams so please do not book any visa or doctors appointments etc.  during this timeframe. More details about the logistics and rules for each exam will be shared with students after February Break. In the meantime teachers may start to communicate with students areas for review as well as tips for studying for the mocks.

IB Predicted Grades

The next round of IB Predicted Grades for IB Year 2 students has been uploaded onto PowerSchool. You can download the PG report on the Quicklookup as a PDf file.  IB Predicted Grades are an estimate of student performance based on a ‘body of evidence’ of the student’s work and the teacher’s knowledge of IB assessment standards. These predicted grades are shared with colleges and universities if they are requested by the institutions. The main purpose of these grades is to communicate to IB students the grade they are most likely to achieve, based on current evidence of their learning.

If you have any questions about Predicted Grades please reach out to your child’s teacher for further information.

Clarification regarding the last day of classes for Gr12 students.

Tuesday April 25th is the last day of school for full IB Diploma students and those taking 3 or more IB and / or AP exams.

Students who are taking 2 or fewer IB or AP exams, continue attending any non-IB / AP classes up until Tuesday 16th May. Note: for any student with an IB/AP exam (AP class taught at ISB), two days of study leave prior to each exam, is provided. Students in this category will be contacted by the Dean of Academics, to make arrangements for the study leave period and to clarify when students need to be on campus.

Below is a rationale for the different end dates for these two groups of students:

  • ISB has always differentiated between IB and semester classes.
  • IB and AP classes finish as students are given study leave in preparation for the exam period; Three week IB exam period from April 27th – May 19th and Two week AP exam period from May 1st – 12th.
  • Semester classes run as long as possible, to allow course credit to be awarded and facilitate any final assessments.
  • Historically classes ran till the end of term with graduation on the last day of term; this moved forward with graduation moving forward.
