ES e-News for December 16, 2022

Happy Holidays From All of Us at ISB!

From all of the staff in the Elementary School, we wish students and families a very safe and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday, January 9, 2023 (A Day).

ES Festival of Lights

Congratulations to all the ES student performers, teachers, IAs and accompanists who supported the Festival of Lights performances on Monday evening! It was a beautiful celebration of many holidays from around the world! Be sure to check out the recording of the concert and all the performance photos via this link:

Thank You: iCare Donations

A huge thank you to our ES community, parents, students and faculty for your tremendous generosity this past week supporting the iCare Thailand Foundation. ISB students and families donated warm clothes, blankets, toys, school bags, school supplies and food (rice, eggs, noodles, UHT milk).

“Gone in 60 seconds! For some of the many thousands of children in Ubon who lost everything, including their school back packs and stationary- the shoe boxes were a perfect addition to the 1,000 backpacks and stationary packs that were distributed to the kids who are doing their best to get back into school as schools slowly reopen! A huge shout out to all the teachers and students who made this happen- you saved the day and put a smile back on the face of kids who are pretty desperate to get back into school.” – Thank You Message to ISB from iCare

ES Report Cards Posted to PowerSchool

Semester 1 report cards are now available via PowerSchool.  We formally report on student learning twice each year (December and June). Please look over the report with your child, discussing strengths, areas for growth and goals.   For technical support please email help@isb.ac.th.

End of Semester Report Cards are an essential part of our updated Communicating Student Learning beliefs found in our ES Parent/Student Handbook (page 61):

At ISB we believe that Communicating Student Learning empowers each student to understand, reflect on, and take ownership of their learning process as well as fosters the partnership between parents, students and teachers.

We define Communicating Student Learning as:

  • Visibly documented evidence of learning growth over time for each child – knowledge, skills, attitudes and understandings.
  • Guided by clearly communicated goals, expectations, feedback and reflection.
  • Communicates student achievement in relation to grade level expectations at a given time.
  • Transparency of ISB program and learning outcomes for stakeholders.

New Family Parent Engage – Jan 12 @ 745am

Parents of new Elementary School students joining us for the second semester are invited to attend the New ES Parent Engage on Thursday, January 12 at MPB#1.  This is an opportunity for new families to connect and learn more about ISB. ES Counselors will share tips and strategies to support your child during their transition to ISB.

Weekly Message from Principal Allen

We ended the first semester on a literal high note as we gathered as an ES community this morning in the Chevron Theater for the annual ES Festival of Lights Assemblies! This was a modified version of the Festival of Lights Celebration that occurred on Monday evening (see the evening recording of the performance here). Please invite your child to tell you all about it!

On behalf of all of us in the elementary school, we thank you for your ongoing support and partnership and wish you a safe and joyful December break!

Your partner in education,
Michael Allen, Ed.D.

ES Parent Book Club Opportunity in January!

Sign up for the next Elementary School Parent Book Club with ES Counselor, Kathy Manu! The book club, which Ms. Manu has run for several years in different international schools, is at its’ essence a means of informally discussing different topics that are both timely and relevant in our community, about education and parenting.

The book all will be reading is: Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in their Digital World, by Dr. Devorah Heitner. It’s an interesting read that will certainly lead to discussion!  The ES Book Club will be running from 7:45-9:00am (in person) on the following dates:

* January 18
* January 25
* February 1

Please sign up only if you are able to commit to attending to at least two of the three meetings.

Please keep in mind that Book Club numbers are limited – as such, Ms. Manu might need to randomly select participants – if interest is high, those not able to attend this first round will be prioritized when the book club is offered again.

This book is available for purchase as an audible book, a digital book, or a paperback –  more information can be found on Amazon or other websites you might use instead.

Does this sound interesting?  Please send email to kathrynm@isb.ac.th by Monday, January 9th!

Ms. Manu will then provide more details about reading assignments, location, etc. once your participation is confirmed.
