Message from the Principal

Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

We are so glad to be able to welcome our students back from their DELVE trips/experiences earlier today or in some cases last night. We had students and teachers spread across Bangkok, throughout Thailand, and also within South East Asia participating in DELVE. As you can imagine this is quite a logistical feat and special thanks go out to Peter Assimakopoulos and Khun Pat in particular for making this work so smoothly. Peter and Khun Pat also received great support from our very own Dr. Dhave, Mark Hevland, and our HS and central office secretarial teams.

Do take a moment with your child and listen to what they learned, what they saw, and what experiences they enjoyed. We will be collecting feedback from students after the break about each of the trips so that we can make adjustments and improvements where necessary. It was also great to hear so many positive reports from our teachers about our students and their involvement, engagement, and positive attitude over the course of the week. Although I was on ‘standby’ duty for potential sick teachers this week, I was still able to travel to Sam Yoi Rot and Petchaburi and join two of our Delve trips for just a few days. It was great to be in the outdoors and to discover and learn a bit more about the wonderful diversity that exists here in Thailand along with our students.

Rest up, spend time with your family and enjoy the upcoming festive season. We all look forward to the three-week break and will see you all in 2023.

Regards

Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Semester Report Cards

Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th

Student Report Cards have been posted on PowerSchool today. The semester report card includes Semester Grades and final Habits and Attitudes towards Learning progress report, but does not include comments.

As ISB continues to be ‘greener’ and timely we issue report cards through the PowerSchool.  On the Grade and Attendance use the link at the top right to access a PDF report card for your son/daughter. The report can be saved and filed electronically and / or printed.

For students taking courses with Pamoja or Global Online Academy courses, actual grades will be communicated directly from the course providers to the students. The grade printed on the ISB report card will be a Pass / Fail grade.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Wishing everyone safe travels and a good restful break this winter!

Grade 11 & 12 CAS Program

Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th

All 11th and 12th graders must complete the Creativity, Activity and Service CAS program. As part of this program, students need to do at least one experience in each strand in 11th grade and again in 12th grade. The activity experience, referring to physical activity, is often the strand students find challenging.

Students that have not completed their activity requirement are asked to complete their physical activity strand over winter break. If students do not have evidence for their activity experience on Managebac by January 9th, they will be assigned to take a 2nd semester PE class for CAS credit. Activity experiences can be any physical exercise such as swimming, running, using the ISB gym, taking a fitness class outside of ISB, taking an online yoga class, HIIT sessions, or anything that has the student working out regularly. If students are doing their activity experience at home, a significant amount of evidence is necessary to meet the requirements.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Peter Assimakopoulos at petera@isb.ac.th

DELVE Stories!
Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th

We did it! We finally had an opportunity to get out to do some service work this past week. A huge thank you to all the teachers who spent countless hours ensuring these trips run as smoothly as possible and organising trips that will impact all our students.

The pictures from the week are a great example to show that our students have been engaged in some incredible opportunities to extend their thinking about communities around them, develop their compassion and care, and have connected them to a range of new friends who they were not necessarily connected to prior to this week.

If you have not done so already, take an opportunity to talk to your child about their experiences. What challenged them? What did they learn about themselves? What will they do differently or appreciate in a new way because of the experiences they had this week? We hope these DELVE stories deepen some of the learning that our students get while away. Please share some of these stories with me. I would love to hear as many of these stories as possible.

The university counselors send their best wishes to all students and families for a wonderful holiday season!  We look forward to the start of the new semester when our focus will shift to the grade 11 students as we continue to support the seniors who are still applying to universities and those who will be going through the final selection phase of their process. Just a reminder that the university counselors will be on holiday beginning at 11:30 on Friday, 15 December, and will not be available for consultation or application review and submission. We wish you a Happy New Year!

We did it! We made it through a very busy term, and now it’s time for a very well-deserved break. This week has been a unique one, with students all over the region on their DELVE experiences. We cannot wait to catch up with one another in January and share stories from our trips.

Take care of yourselves, take time to unplug, and be with family, and we’ll see each other in the new year!
