Message from the Principal

Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

We enjoyed the last week of classes, concerts, and a fantastic assembly earlier today to wrap up the first semester of academics and learning. Our students and teachers of course have to DELVE to look forward to next week, but there is still a great feeling of excitement and accomplishment in the HS today.

Congratulations to all of our musicians who have been performing in various concerts over the past few weeks and many of them will perform again tonight in the ‘Artists under the stars’ concert; taking place on the stage behind the cafeteria at 6.30 pm.

Good luck to our students and their teachers for DELVE next week. These trips are important elements of our High School students’ experiences and learning and we are so glad to be able to run these trips more fully again. Hopefully, all students will be physically well as they prepare for and join these trips next week. Of course, if illness does occur (or your child has a positive covid test result), please be sure to let our DELVE coordinator Mr. Assimakopoulos, the trip leader, the attendance secretary, and our Health team know.

Possible Schedule Changes for Semester 2

Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th

In general students retain the same schedule for the second semester.  In some cases, due to changes in course choice, the addition of semester courses, or other factors, a student’s schedule may be slightly different next semester.  In these cases, we do the best we can to keep the same teachers for each student, but this is not always possible.  Students need to view their Semester 2 schedule on PowerSchool to be ready for the first day of school.  If students wish to change their schedule they should see their counselor.

IB Exams – Payment Reminder

Justyna McMillan

justynam@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

If your child is taking one or more IB exams in May 2023, there is a fee associated with each exam. Invoices for the exams have been posted on PowerSchool under “Grades and Attendance” and the payment due date has passed. If you have not yet made payment for the exams, please use this as a gentle reminder to complete payment as soon as possible.

I have attached a PDF sample invoice, for your reference.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

DELVE – Begins!

Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th

We are finally here! DELVE trips start next week, and some leave as soon as Saturday this weekend.

Planning these trips has required enormous work from many staff members and teachers. The payoff is students get a week filled with unique, experiential learning experiences that last a lifetime. To engage with the local communities on their trips and learn from their way of life. We hope our students will open their minds and take in all the learning opportunities their trip offers. The goal for your child is to take a moment to recognise how incredibly blessed we are as a community.

This is a reminder that overnight trips must take an ATK test the night before departure. A jotform will be shared with you via SMS.

We look forward to hearing from each of our trips and students this week, and they return from this wonderful experience. As a reminder, if there is a need to contact your child throughout the week, please feel free to call Peter Assimakopoulos (0995401474), so we can relay a message to your child’s DELVE teacher. Please note that there will be times when some groups do not have mobile coverage.

We wish our students a fantastic experience over the coming week.

Peter Assimakopoulos

News from the University Counselor
Debbie McDowell
Debbiem@isb.ac.th

The semester is winding down with an abbreviated week which we just finished and then DELVE. However, University admissions should still be a priority of the seniors. University counselors expect seniors to submit all applications with deadlines before 15 February to be submitted prior to the winter holiday. The seniors have been showing signs of stress as we creep closer to the end of the semester. Check on your child and find out where they are in terms of submitting their applications.

University Counselors will be on campus 10 am to 6 pm next week, Monday through Thursday. Like everyone else, counselors will head out for holiday at 11:30 on Friday and will not be available over the holiday for consultation or application submission.

Seniors have been getting results from the applications they submitted early on. There have been many excited students who came by to let their counselor know they were admitted to one of their universities. Please remind your child to inform their counselor about any (admit, defer, or deny) application results.

Early Decision results will be released next week. Remember that an Early Decision acceptance is a binding admission. If admitted ED, the student must withdraw any applications already submitted and will not submit any more applications. Each university will give a unique deadline by which the student must send their deposit to confirm enrollment. If a student is deferred in the ED round, their application will be read at a later date with the regular decision applications. If your child has any questions about the ED/EA results, please encourage them to meet with their counselor.

The last Junior Seminar of the semester will be this week on Friday, 9 December. Students will participate in two blind taste tests that will present universities in the US and the UK without their names. Students are encouraged to look at the characteristics of the schools rather than the names of the universities. At the end of class, students will be given an assignment guiding them through the university research process.

Parents of Grade 11, mark  your calendars. Junior Family University Night will be on Thursday, 19 January at 6:30 pm in the Chevron Theater. We look forward to seeing you there!

Grade 10 students will be assigned their university counselor in January. Students and parents will be able to find the name of the university counselor in PowerSchool.

Upcoming University Visits @ ISB

There are no scheduled university visits for the remainder of the semester.

There are many virtual and off campus university events taking place which our students are invited to attend. Check the Virtual and Off Campus University Events spreadsheet frequently to know what’s available. Please note that pre-registration is needed for some events.

Please check the ISB University/College Counseling website for loads of information. You will find university research tools, transition resources for students and parents, recordings and slide shows from Parent Coffees and family presentations, virtual and off campus university visits, information about testing and how to sign up for the SAT at ISB, a list of summer programs about which the counselors have been informed, and the ISB School Profile.

Kindly,

Deb
