Next week, ISB joins Thailand in celebrating Father’s Day with no school on Monday, December 5th. Also, please note that Wednesday, December 7th is an Early Release Day, with school dismissal at 1:10 PM.

Here’s the schedule for the week:

  • Monday, Dec 5th – Holiday, NO SCHOOL
  • Tuesday, Dec 6th – Day 1
  • Wednesday, Dec 7th – Day 2, Early Release Day
  • Thursday, Dec 8th – Day 3
  • Friday, Dec 9th – Day 4

Looking ahead to the last week of the semester, we will be running several events connected to our MS Olympics. We will still follow the “Day” schedule as calendared for orders of class periods. On Friday, December 16th, students will be dismissed at 11:30 to finish off the first semester.

Wonderful Performances at the MS Band Concert

This past Tuesday, MS and HS hosted a combined band concert featuring the MS Concert Band, MS Symphonic Band, and HS Wind Ensemble. The event culminated in a fully combined band performance of “Take Me Home Country Roads,” the theme of the night.

In front of a packed house, once again we were treated to a terrific demonstration of the learning progress of our student musicians. The high quality of the musicianship was representative of the students’ hard work, dedication to practice, and talent.

Bravo to our band conductors / teachers, Mr. Poling and Mr. Udagawa, who, along with the support of Khun Non, have built a wonderful program in which students thrive and develop a love for playing music.

Leaving ISB?

Parents of students who are not returning to ISB in January need to notify the MS Office, Khun Namwan (sariyam@isb.ac.th) as soon as possible to enable us to process school records for their next school.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

MS Leading out on Donations to iCare

by Kerry Dyke, MS Service Coordinator

iCARE THAILAND is dedicated to helping those in need in very rural and isolated parts of Thailand.  This week they delivered 1000 blankets, 1000 jackets, 500 toys, 50 bikes.  Most importantly, 7 new students will go to school for the first time in their lives (see photos).

They have more areas to service and are asking ISB to help.  Through our MS Advisory groups we are asking students to kindly consider participating in the season of giving.

iCare is looking for:

  • School bags & school supplies (used or new)
  • warm clothes & blankets (used or new)
  • toys, stuffed animals, & books. (used or new)
  • food (rice, noodles, UHT milk, eggs)

We hope students can find a way to help. Remember items do not have to be new. Perhaps it is clothing they no longer wear or a toy from their past that is still in good condition.

Students can bring items to their advisory class next week. iCARE will pick up on Friday, December 9.

Thank you 🙏

Service Week in the Middle School

by Kerry Dyke, MS Service Coordinator

This week our MS students were involved in SERVICE WEEK.

Our many clubs presented their “TV style” commercials in advisory to inform us of what they were all about and how we could help. Then, throughout the week, the clubs were set up in the cafeteria. Some were advocating for protecting sharks, others using their social enterprise to help elephants and people in conflict zones, another group was teaching people how to reduce plastic waste by refilling an old bottle with soap, shampoo, etc instead of always buying new.

As well, we have been asking all advisory groups to donate items to iCare. We were looking for certain types of food (UHT milk, rice, sardines, noodles, and eggs), as well as school supplies, blankets, clothes, toys.

Service Week will continue into next week, so if families find items that they can donate, please consider bringing them to school next week.

SB Library Used Book Sale

Our ISB MS/HS Library is clearing out old titles with a Used Book Sale. The sale will be set up in the MS/HS Library (across from the MS Office) December 6-14.

MS students share service leadership at the ServICE conference

by Kerry Dyke, MS Service Coordinator

The 12th Annual Bangkok ServICE Conference was hosted this year by Berkeley International School and ISB participated with 13 MS students and 5 HS.

This conference is student-led focusing on environmental and humanitarian challenges in the world. The I.C.E. in ServICE stands for Inspire, Connect, and Empower respectively.

That is exactly what happened in the powerful 3 day annual event. Day 1 had students mixing with students from other schools and going to various sites to learn about composting food waste at a mall, working with children at the Mercy center, rescuing dogs, planting mangroves, and much more. The next 2 days were filled with events at Berkeley. The keynote speakers (student and adult) were incredibly diverse, knowledgeable, and INSPIRATIONAL. The fair had booths from NGO’s, students, and other organizations and was a great way to CONNECT with others in the field of interest. The students also led ‘HOW TO” sessions which were to show what they did and how others could do it too. We hope students from all 16 schools are now EMPOWERED to continue to take action to build a better world.

Repeat Announcement: Helping students maintain good hygiene

Middle school is a time of significant body and chemical changes for adolescents. As many parents are seeing at home, this can manifest in new ways for young people, like body odor, acne, and other hygiene issues. MS students may not notice the difference, recalling when they could be active all day when they were in elementary school and not worry about it.

Now at MS-age, it’s much more important for students to look after their personal hygiene. Wearing clean clothes, possibly using deodorant or perspirant, and changing after active sessions is essential for their wellness and well-being.

Students are required to be in their ISB polo shirts during the school day and PE uniforms for PE. We want student to change out of their sweaty clothes, so please make sure our child is bringing items to school to allow them to change and stay clean. Students will be asked to change into loaner items if they don’t have these items themselves.
