Grade 6 Trip To Kanchanaburi

by Wes Przybylski, Grade 6 Team Leader

The grade 6 recently went on an incredible 3 day trip to Kanchanaburi where students connected without devices, built community, and simply had a blast together!

Throughout the trip everyone was smiling and laughing, Interacting and getting to know one another. We are very pleased to witness the energy that all of our grade 6 brought to this experience. Sharing this outdoor experience together was so wonderful.

This trip is emblematic of the beginning of Middle School for grade 6 and is a positive bonding experience that has built lasting bonds for the class of 2029!

Intercultural Week – Nov 7-11

ISB is excited to engage in Intercultural Week next week, with activities throughout the week celebrating our cultural diversity and the many cultures that our community identifies or connects with. With such an well-traveled community, there are countless cultures to celebrate.

During the week, students will engage in Thai Games to recognize our host country of Thailand and we will get together two times in week for full school activities on Wednesday and an Intercultural Day Assembly on Thursday.

On Thursday, we encourage all MS students and teachers to wear clothing of their home country/culture or a culture that they have connected with in their time living away from home countries. We love seeing the national dress and celebrations from around the world.

First MS Eco-Trip a Learning Success

by Kerry Dyke, MS Service Coordinator

Two weekends ago we had our first overnight Eco Trip since the pandemic started.  It was so great to get back into eco-action.  20 students and 3 chaperones went to Kuiburi to work with Bring The Elephant Home Foundation (BTEH), whose main focuses working with the community to facilitate Human Elephant Coexistence.  We arrived in the evening and set up our tents and then had a very interesting cooking competition on the first night.  In the morning we went for a walk to observe how the farmers try to deal with elephants raiding their crops.  We witnessed physical deterrents, as well as sound and natural deterrents.

Later we made paper out of pineapple leaves, tie-dye, and working with the stingless bees we used the wax to make lip balm.  In the evening we interview a ranger at the park and watched him use the drone to find animals such as a guar.  We were treated to another delicious meal from the local community that night before returning to the camp to just let the kids be kids around the campfire.  We had an early rise on Day 3 to go birding and found a tree with over 25 hornbills sitting in it.  This was also a great time to learn about other birds and elephant tracks and signs such as rubbing trees.

Upcoming MS Student Leadership Seminar

Our November 19 MS Student Leadership Seminar is entitled “All Means All: Creating a Culture of Belonging.” Our focus will be on helping students understand how they can create and contribute to a culture of belonging. Students will be presented with leadership strategies designed to bring others in and promote inclusion. Please encourage your child to join us for a fun-filled workshop dedicated to understanding why leaders need to be able to make others feel included in order to be effective, and practical ways they might do this. There will be lots of new, hands-on activities and it’s a great opportunity to make new connections. Your child will receive a certificate for participating in this activity. This seminar will be held in the MPB from 9:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, November 19. Students will have the opportunity to sign up via the Good Morning Middle School starting next week or you can sign your child up here
