Dear Parents,
We return to school after a well-deserved break for students and teachers alike. Our students are shifting gears as they work their way through the academic year interspersed with athletics, performances, conferences, and other activities that our students are involved in. Season Two athletics tryouts start next week whilst IASAS Art, Film, and MUN delegates are making preparations for the IASAS Cultural Convention taking place from November 9-12.
There are a few HS parent meetings taking place in the coming weeks, so please take a moment to read the descriptions and register so that we know you are attending.
Student Parent Teacher Conference Survey
Prior to the break we held the HS Student Parent-teacher conferences and via Enews we asked parents to complete a very short feedback survey. We only received 7 responses and we would like to hear from more parents. Please take a moment and share your feedback with us by clicking HERE.

Mathematics, Science and Language Pathways in the HS – Informational Session for Parents – Friday October 28th from 9:00 – 10:30 MPB1&2
Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
We would like to invite you to an informational session on pathways for mathematics, science and languages, in the high school. We often get questions about the different pathways in these subject areas, particularly in how choices students make in Grades 9 & 10 align with pathways into Grades 11 &12.
This session will be focused on progression in the High School in these subject areas, and provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions. We encourage any parents of students currently enrolled in Grades 8, 9 and 10 to attend this meeting.
Please register for the meeting using THIS LINK. The registration link also includes a space for you to enter a question you would like to have answered during the meeting. We can use these questions to help guide our discussions.
Hope to see you next week!

News from HS Counselors
School Counselors
hscouns@isb.ac.th
Dear HS Parent/Guardians,
At ISB we care deeply about the well-being of our students. To help us meet our mission to support them in leading healthy, active and balanced lives, all students in Grades 9-12 will complete the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) during Advisory on November 1.
Why is the questionnaire being administered?
The purpose of this questionnaire is to:
- Identify students who require immediate support
- Identify students who are struggling with social/emotional/behavioral issues in order to provide appropriate early intervention/prevention support
- Obtain an overview of the social/emotional/behavioral needs at our school to ensure that we are providing optimal support for our students
How and when will the questionnaire be administered?
The online questionnaire will be administered during your child’s Advisory and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey items are available for you to review here.
How will the results be used?
- The data collected will be managed, analyzed, and reported by a team including the school counselors, school psychologists, and the Director of Student Services in accordance with the ISB Confidentiality Policy.
- Individual student responses to the questionnaire are confidential. Any concerns raised through the survey administration process will be shared only with school personnel involved in supporting that student.
- The questionnaire administration process has been designed to identify specific students who need additional support. The survey will be conducted electronically, and students’ names will be captured along with their responses. ISB counselors will meet with any student whose responses indicate a need for follow up and parents will be notified.
- School counselors, school psychologists, and administrators will analyze overall trends to help improve student support at ISB.
- In completing this questionnaire, your child will have an opportunity to privately reflect on his/her current social-emotional health and wellness. Some parents may choose to use the questionnaire as an opportunity to create dialogue related to social-emotional wellbeing topics with their child following the completion of the survey.
Does my child have to complete the questionnaire?
No. As a parent or guardian, you can opt out of having your child complete this questionnaire. Students will be informed that they may choose to skip any questions that they do not feel comfortable answering.
Parents/Guardians who do not want their child to take the survey should let their child’s school counselor know by phone or in writing prior to the administration of the SDQ. ISB will assume parent/guardian consent to their child participating unless the school counselor has been notified. Parents do not have to do anything unless they do not want their child to participate.
Thank you so much for your support with this important project.

Mark your calendars! ISB will be hosting the 2022 Thai University Fair on 14 November from 10:40-12:00 noon in the MPB. All High school students will be able to attend the fair and parents of High School students are invited to attend as well.
PSAT
Grade 11 ISB students are scheduled to take the PSAT at no cost to the student/family on the morning of Tuesday, 25 October. The PSAT serves as practice for the SAT and is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for American citizens. On the day of the test, students will report directly to the MPB at 7:30 AM. The test will take approximately 3 hours after completing the registration information. Students pre-registered and received a PSAT booklet in Junior Seminar on Tuesday, October 18 so that they can familiarize themselves with the test. A practice test is also included in the booklet. A practice tests can be found here: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/preparing/practice-tests/paper
For some ISB students, the PSAT is not relevant to their university applications / planning, and therefore they do not need to take the exam. Students who chose to opt out were asked to have the form completed by a parent by Friday, 7 October. Those opted out of the test will remain in class and follow the schedule for the day.
Junior Seminar was on Tuesday, 18 October. After working on the PSAT registration form, counselors led the grade 11 students through a self reflection exercise using the Holland Codes. The students participated in the Holland Code Party event. Please ask your child what his/her/their strongest three Holland Codes are. Ask them to explain how this may be linked to their future career and university program of study.
Class of 2023
Deadlines for Early Action and Early Decision applications are quickly approaching!
Seniors must have their applications and essays reviewed prior to submitting the application with the counselor. The 1 November deadline is just around the corner. Please help us by reminding your child to submit essays well before the deadline so feedback can be provided with plenty of time for the student to polish their essay before submitting.
Reminder: students should not be submitting their applications on the deadline date! There can be technical issues, personal issues or illness that makes it next to impossible to troubleshoot at the last minute. The best plan is to submit applications well before the deadline. All applications with a 1 November deadline should be submitted by Friday, 28 October with their counselor! Please remind your child to set that appointment with their counselor so their application can be submitted before the deadline!
Senior Seminar #4 was on Thursday, 20 October. The focus was on completing applications and workshopping the University of California application. All students had time to review deadlines and work on essays and focus on completing their applications.
