Weekly Message from Principal Allen

Thank you to all of our students, parents and teachers for coming together to celebrate each child’s growth and development as well as work in partnership to identify clear learning goals for the rest of the semester.

At ISB, we believe that children are in charge of their learning and we give them many opportunities to know that they are capable and that they can influence what happens to them.  During the conferences these past two days your child was an essential element as all areas of each child’s behavior and learning were discussed with openness and transparency so that children continue to feel empowered and responsible for their behavior and learning.

Some of the student benefits of having students be part of the conferences include the following:

  • Accountability for their learning
  • Ownership of the learning process
  • Increased commitment to school work
  • Increased interaction between child and parents
  • Increased independence
  • Ability to self-assess
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem
  • Development of leadership skills
  • Fostering of organizational, communication and critical thinking skills

Some of the documented parental benefits of including students include the following:

  • Active participation in your child’s learning
  • Better understanding of your child’s learning successes and challenges
  • Forum for parents to have a voice that is heard by teachers and children
  • Improved communication between home and school
  • The creation of a forum for you to talk with your children productively and positively

Thank you again for your active participation in Student Parent Teacher Conferences these past two days!

Your partner in education,
Michael Allen, Ed.D.

Elementary School Intercultural Week 2022 – November 7-11

Intercultural Day 2022: “Hand in Hand

Calling all parents of ALL CULTURES!

Intercultural Day is an elementary school event that celebrates the diversity and richness of our cultures. The event will be on the week of November 7-11 … and the planning begins now. For more information please click here.

Parents are needed to volunteer to set up classrooms and organize age-appropriate activities highlighting their culture in line with the theme of the year. Each room will be visited by students of the same grade level. The PTA coordinators are very happy to help you with ideas and putting your plan together. Generally, each room organizes a combination of fun activities with songs, dance, games, food, and stories that will delight your eager audience!  We are excited to work together to make this a fun, enriching and successful event for the school community.

REGISTRATION FOR SEASON 2 OPEN THROUGH OCTOBER 26th

Dear Parents,
Registration for Season 2 after school programs is open now through 3:00pm on Wednesday, October 26th. See details about how to sign up through CCA below. Again, It is our sincere hope that by having programs available in one place for families, it will make it easier for parents to talk with their kids about what’s on, and to decide together what they want to do after school.

Waitlists Offered Sunday, October 9th at 6:00pm for some Panther Explore classes
Due to the popularity of some Panther Explore courses we have created first-come-first-served waitlists for students who would like to be considered for participation in Season 3 (February 6-April 7). Those waitlisted will be contacted before registration opens for Season 3 in January to claim their space or opt out of this activity. Note that students are limited to two waitlisted courses per season.

CCA (Co-Curricular Activities) Registration on PowerSchool
Sign ups for Panther Activities are just a few clicks away. Simply log into PowerSchool and click the CCA Registration button to start exploring the many activities available for your child.

Payment & Enrollment
Payment is required to register for any pay-to-play programs with the exception of Panther Music which is set up as ‘interest only’ with payments due after lesson times and teacher availability have been confirmed.  Scholastic, or ‘free’ programs require simply one click on the “register” button associated with each activity to enroll a student. Note that some programs have a limited number of participant spaces and that registration will be blocked once an activity is full.

Refund Policy
The two reasons we would consider a refund are:

  1. Your child has a medical issue that requires them to stop an activity (documentation is required)
  2. Your family is leaving the country in the middle of the season

Cancellations & Changes
Every effort will be made to make up weather related cancellations however refunds will not be issued for activities that are canceled due to circumstances beyond the control of Panther Activities or Athletics. We reserve the right to make necessary administrative modifications (i.e. instructor, combining classes, location, cancellations, etc.). Changes will be promptly communicated to the email address provided with your registration.

Early Release Days (ERD)
Our after-school activities/athletics will begin at their regularly scheduled times on ERD days. This means that there will be a 90-minute gap between the end of the school day and the beginning of session 1. We expect that students will go home and return to school for their activity.

Season 2 Co-Curricular Breakdown

On behalf of all of our coaches, staff and coordinators, thank you for signing your children up for our after school programs. We can’t wait to work with your kids!

Regards,
Chris, Kelley, Fon and Anthony
