ES e-News for June 2, 2022

No School Tomorrow June 3

The Royal Thai Government declared that Friday, June 3, 2022 will be a national holiday to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Please note that ISB will be closed on June 3, 2022.

June 8 & 9 ES Water Extravaganza PE Celebrations

Next week is our annual PE Celebration of Learning, Water Extravaganza Version.  This year it will be held on June 8 for grades KG, 2, 4 and June 9 for grades 1, 3, 5.  Students will participate in the Water Extravaganza for a double block, so they will not be going to their other special on this day.  Students will be outside participating in a variety of water themed games and activities (Grades 4 and 5 will also use the pools).  As students will be active and outside, masks will be optional for these activities, as they are in PE class.

What students need:

  • Swimsuit or other “water clothes” (Since Grades 4 and 5 students have PE first thing in the morning, they should come to school wearing their swimsuits under other clothes)
  • A change of clothes – students must change out of their wet clothes when finished, except students in Grades 2 and 3 if they are going home right after school, and not taking a bus
  • Swim bag and towel (something to put wet swimsuits/clothes and towels in when finished)
  • Shoes – we recommend students wear sandals/crocs to this event
  • Water bottle – students will be active and need to stay hydrated
  • Extra masks, as they will most likely get wet. Cloth masks preferred.
  • Sunscreen – a face stick would be great and easy for students to use

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us via email.  We look forward to being able to hold this event again, live and in person, after two years of a virtual PE celebration.

Yours in movement,
PE Team

MAP & ISA Results On PowerSchool

Students in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 took the annual ISA assessment in February 2022.  The International School Assessment is designed to offer comparable assessment data for students in international schools.  The ISA assesses students in the three domains of Mathematical Literacy, Reading and Writing. More details about the ISA can be found here: https://www.acer.org/id/isa

May 2022 MAP testing results are available on PowerSchool for students in Grades 2-5.  Please follow the steps below to access the MAP results:

  1. Log on to PowerSchool (shown below)
  2. Click on Grade and Attendance on the left side (as seen in gray highlighted)
  3. Copy password (label in red) to open MAP results

Within this PDF you will find very detailed information regarding our MAP assessments and explanations of the scores from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).  For more information about MAP at ISB, please enjoy this 35-minute recording of the February 2022 MAP webinar for ES Parents.

Weekly Message From Principal Allen

Each week ES faculty and IAs explore a different strategy, tool or resource that supports our approach to guiding and supporting our students. We use these as we empower students, support their social emotional wellbeing, and instill a strong sense of belonging.

The resource that was shared with ES faculty and IAs this week is copied below.  All schools have a critical choice to make in how they perceive and respond to student misbehavior. When we follow traditional practice, we often act in ways that contradict our fundamental mission as a school —to engage each student in high levels of learning. This simple chart helps to articulate why schools like ISB have adopted a Solutions Focused Approach when it comes to guiding and supporting students.

Take a quick peek and let me know what questions you might have…we also encourage families to use solutions focused approaches at home as well!

Michael Allen, Ed.D.

Virtual Learning for Students Impacted by COVID

Virtual Learning occurs when campus is open and a few students are not able to come to campus (ie: in transit from another country, in quarantine, close contacts). Virtual learning occurs for students in the form of asynchronous learning tasks and assignments. As teachers customize the learning tasks to meet the needs of the child, there could be a delay in sending the tasks to families; we thank you in advance for your patience.  Balancing the needs of students both on and off campus has been one of our greatest challenges when we offer on campus and virtual learning.

In order to support students unable to be on campus, Alex Sawaetwong has been assigned to be our Virtual Learning teacher. Ms. Alex leads synchronous Zoom sessions for students on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays when they are at home for COVID related reasons. If you are in need of any type of Virtual Learning support, please contact Ms. Alex know: alexs@isb.ac.th

Note: Students who are symptomatic are expected to rest and focus on getting better; they are marked as “sick” in PowerSchool are not required to complete virtual learning tasks nor attend synchronous sessions until they are feeling better.

Virtual School and Virtual Learning Definitions
Virtual School is the model for learning when all students in a class are learning at home. Virtual School includes a daily schedule of synchronous sessions with homeroom and specialist teachers. Students who are not able to participate in virtual school Zoom sessions (ie. in transit or in another time zone) complete asynchronous learning tasks and assignments.
Virtual Learning occurs when campus is open and a few students are not able to come to campus (ie: in transit from another country, in quarantine, close contacts). Virtual learning occurs for students in the form of asynchronous learning tasks and assignments. Synchronous check-ins are provided periodically during the week by a Virtual Learning teacher.

Sunday & Wednesday ATK Testing

Students will be required to take ATK tests every Sunday and Wednesday between 4:00pm and 8:00pm – with results uploaded on the ATK Form within that same timeframe. The next ATK test is required on Sunday, June 5.  If you need assistance with the ATK Form, please write to help@isb.ac.th

It is very important that all test results are entered into the ATK Form within the specified time in order to ensure campus access the following day. The ATK Form is linked to the ID cards and ISB turnstiles system.
