ISB Survey Due Tuesday

Please complete the Annual ISB Parent Survey that was sent to you via email on May 17th.  This data is important to us as we consider how we can provide the best education for our students.  The feedback we have received from parents, teachers, and students has informed improvements in our programs, services, and, recently, our virtual learning.  ISB is committed to continual growth and we are seeking your feedback again. We ask that you kindly complete this survey by Tuesday, May 31st at 5PM.

No School on June 3

The Royal Thai Government declared that Friday, June 3, 2022 will be a national holiday to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Please note that ISB will be closed on June 3, 2022.

MAP & ISA Results On PowerSchool

Students in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 took the annual ISA assessment in February 2022.  The International School Assessment is designed to offer comparable assessment data for students in international schools.  The ISA assesses students in the three domains of Mathematical Literacy, Reading and Writing. More details about the ISA can be found here: https://www.acer.org/id/isa

May 2022 MAP testing results are available on PowerSchool for students in Grades 2-5.  Please follow the steps below to access the MAP results:

  1. Log on to PowerSchool (shown below)
  2. Click on Grade and Attendance on the left side (as seen in gray highlighted)
  3. Copy password (label in red) to open MAP results

Within this PDF you will find very detailed information regarding our MAP assessments and explanations of the scores from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).  For more information about MAP at ISB, please enjoy this 35-minute recording of the February 2022 MAP webinar for ES Parents.

iCare Bicycle Donations

Your TRASH might be someone else’s TREASURE.  Do you have a good bicycle you no longer use?  Please donate it at ISB next week and iCare will come to pick it up.  It will be given to students in isolated villages in north-east Thailand who struggle to walk long distances to school each day.  Your bicycle could have a major impact on their level of education received.  Drop bicycles off in the ISB parking lot near the motorcycle section any day next week.

When:  Monday – Thursday (May 30- June 2).
Where:  ISB parking lot.  We have a section near the motorcycles where you can drop it off.

Weekly Message From Principal Allen

Thank you to the 50+ ES parents who were able to join us for Thursday’s Parent Engage session in the Chevron Theater!

The session started with a brief introduction to the ISB Definition of Learning before heading off to the classrooms where we observed students engaged in learning.  Following the visit to the classrooms, we reflected on what we observed through the lens of the ISB Definition of Learning.  It was an authentic way for parents to learn more about our program and approaches to learning.

Following the learning walks, participants were reminded to share their feedback via the annual ISB survey that was shared with all parents via email on Tuesday, May 17. In addition to the annual survey, session participants were asked to share feedback based on the following three questions:

1) What topics are you hoping we might explore in future Parent Engage sessions?
2) What have been some successful aspects of your child’s ISB experience during the 2021-22 school year?
3) What might be some possible opportunities of growth for the elementary school program?

Feedback trends were briefly discussed during the session and are being used as we plan for the 2022-23 school year. There was a lot of positive feedback regarding teachers and their ability to support and guide children, the breadth of programs for students, and student learning.  In regards to opportunities for improvement, the most common trend parents shared was their hope to have more individualized and personalized information regarding their child’s performance.

Thank you again to the parents who were able to join us.  Watch for more details early in the new school year regarding the next ES Parent Engage sessions, and plan to join us!

Michael Allen, Ed.D.

Virtual Learning for Students Impacted by COVID

Virtual Learning occurs when campus is open and a few students are not able to come to campus (ie: in transit from another country, in quarantine, close contacts). Virtual learning occurs for students in the form of asynchronous learning tasks and assignments. As teachers customize the learning tasks to meet the needs of the child, there could be a delay in sending the tasks to families; we thank you in advance for your patience.  Balancing the needs of students both on and off campus has been one of our greatest challenges when we offer on campus and virtual learning.

In order to support students unable to be on campus, Alex Sawaetwong has been assigned to be our Virtual Learning teacher. Ms. Alex leads synchronous Zoom sessions for students on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays when they are at home for COVID related reasons. If you are in need of any type of Virtual Learning support, please contact Ms. Alex know: alexs@isb.ac.th

Note: Students who are symptomatic are expected to rest and focus on getting better; they are marked as “sick” in PowerSchool are not required to complete virtual learning tasks nor attend synchronous sessions until they are feeling better.

Virtual School and Virtual Learning Definitions
Virtual School is the model for learning when all students in a class are learning at home. Virtual School includes a daily schedule of synchronous sessions with homeroom and specialist teachers. Students who are not able to participate in virtual school Zoom sessions (ie. in transit or in another time zone) complete asynchronous learning tasks and assignments.
Virtual Learning occurs when campus is open and a few students are not able to come to campus (ie: in transit from another country, in quarantine, close contacts). Virtual learning occurs for students in the form of asynchronous learning tasks and assignments. Synchronous check-ins are provided periodically during the week by a Virtual Learning teacher.

Sunday & Wednesday ATK Testing

Students will be required to take ATK tests every Sunday and Wednesday between 4:00pm and 8:00pm – with results uploaded on the ATK Form within that same timeframe. The next ATK test is required on Sunday, May 29.  If you need assistance with the ATK Form, please write to help@isb.ac.th

It is very important that all test results are entered into the ATK Form within the specified time in order to ensure campus access the following day. The ATK Form is linked to the ID cards and ISB turnstiles system.
