Congratulations to the Class of 2022

Hi Everyone,

I am writing today’s message a few moments after our Seniors completed their final graduation rehearsal  in preparations for their final day. Although the seniors were very excited about getting their caps and gowns for the ceremony and keen to do their final run through of the ceremony, the best moments were for other reasons.

Our HS PTA rep (Xiao He) and our Thai PTA reps joined us at the start of the rehearsal to present gifts to our Seniors. It has been a long standing tradition for our PTA to present ISB embroidered blankets to the graduating class and they love them. With many students moving to cooler climes for their further studies, an ISB blanket is not only a good memento from their time at ISB, but a practical one when in a cold university dorm room in February. To compliment the warm blanket was the presentation of an ISB themed cooler bag from the Thai PTA to keep things cold during warmer months. Thank you to both the HS PTA and the Thai PTA for providing these gifts to all of our Seniors today.

But the best gift of all was the visit to the rehearsal by our Elementary School friends in Grade 2 and 3. On Thursday we hosted a Senior Parade through the campus with our ES friends making posters, masks and cheering on our seniors as they snaked their way through the campus. This was very special for both our younger students and seniors alike and today our younger friends returned to cheer them on once more and to give over the posters and signs to the Seniors themselves. It was a great connection with our younger students and the soon to be Alumni of ISB.

Whilst the class of 2022 will enjoy their graduation and Prom tonight, they will however miss out on the opportunity to participate in DELVE next week. Mr. Assimakopoulus has worked tirelessly with Khun Pat in the HS office, to organise DELVE a number of times and we look forward to DELVE starting this weekend or on Monday. Good luck to all of our Grade 9, 10 and 11 students next week.

Congratulations to the Class of 2022

ISA Results for Gr10 are now available on PowerSchool

Justyna McMillan
justynam@isb.ac.th

In February of this year, ISB students in grades 3, 5, 7, and 10 took the International Schools Assessment (ISA).  This assessment is taken by over 51,000 students in 250 international schools in 61 countries.  Students completed assessments evaluating Mathematical Literacy, Reading, and Writing.

The ISA provides teachers with information about each students’ performance in these four content areas and allows ISB to compare our student performance with other international schools around the world.

If you are a parent of a Gr10 student, your child’s  results on the ISA have been posted in the Parent Portal on PowerSchool.

You can find more information about the ISA program at:  www.acer.org/isa

Please remember that this is a single snapshot of your child’s performance taken at one point in time.  It is important to consider the results of this assessment in the context of other assessments, work samples, and information from the teacher.  If you have any questions about these results, please contact your child’s teacher or Justyna McMillan, the HS Dean of Academics.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibition Gr11 Students

Justyna McMillan

Hello ISB Friends and Family,

The Class of 2023 IB Diploma students are proud to present their TOK Exhibition!

Theory of Knowledge is an epistemology and critical thinking class–similar to Philosophy 101 in Universities.  In this first official summative, students must choose three objects from their lives and use them to show how knowledge connects to them as knowers in various ways.

The in-person TOK Exhibition is supposed to be a live, community event involving our entire school.  Due to Covid restrictions, we had a smaller, more intimate, in-person event.  Using FlipGrid and our website, we were able to create a hybrid environment that allowed students to share, question and reflect on the process.  Now we would like to share our final products with the ISB community!

On our website (HERE)  you can find a synopsis of every student’s TOK Exhibition, links to their submissions as well as some featured student reflections.  Our stand-out TOK students’ work is also displayed in the Upper Grind from now until the end of school.  We hope you enjoy it and we can’t wait to try a full, in-person TOK Exhibition next year!

Thanks to our amazing TOK teachers for making this challenging year a massive success!!

Ian Galbraith, Patience Soule, Conor Duffy, Danny Wall, Oliver Picton and Rich Werner deserve a true philosopher’s round of applause!

Enjoy!

TOK Coordinator

We are ready to embark on a week without walls. A week of learning outside of the classroom. A week filled with hands-on, experiential learning where students will form friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime.

In the next couple days, if your child is going on an overnight trip, double check that they have packed everything for the trip. All trips chaperones have provided a packing list for their specific trips.

For local day trips, check with your son/daughter what time they arrive back to ISB for each day. Some trips might return after 2:50pm.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Peter Assimakopoulos (petera@isb.ac.th).

Thank you,

Peter Assimakopoulos
