Dear PTA Members,
The majority of the parents that were on the slate of nominees for 2022/2023 have decided to step down as they do not feel comfortable competing with a fellow parent for a PTA role.
The thought of being humiliated or humiliating a fellow parent isn’t appealing to most.
Out of the 19 people that were ready to serve, only 1 person wanted to proceed with the AGM and preferred to compete with a fellow parent at the AGM.
4 parents (3 positions) did not respond.
The other 14 parents were happy to share their roles and work together as we would expect at a school that strongly encourages our children to be inclusive.
Our tenure (Executive Board 2021/2022) as per the PTA Bylaws Article 5D ends on the 31st of May, 2022.
As this is an unprecedented situation and we would prefer not to host an AGM that would be nothing but detrimental to our community, we have voted to hand over the PTA to ISB Administration.
I am reminded of the judgement of Solomon in the story in which two women claimed to be the mother of a child.
We have chosen to step aside rather than destroy the ISB community spirit.
We believe the school administration needs time to think and possibly re-strategise the institution of this PTA at ISB and also the ISB community needs time to reflect on our real motives and aspirations for this PTA.
