Behavior Expectations for School Trips – Working Together

As we approach our upcoming school trips for grades 6 & 7 (grade 8 will be in late May), our teachers and students have been in preparation mode to ensure the trips are a success. Parents and students should have received packing lists and other pertinent information for their child’s upcoming trip.

When teachers take children away on overnight trips, they take on a massive responsibility to care for and ensure the safety of each and every student. Activities in nature and off-campus are of course less scaffolded and protected, which means that our team have to be extra-mindful of ensure safety and success. For this reason, when monitoring a large group of students over 3 days and 2 nights, we have to have behavioral expectations in place to ensure that EVERYONE has a positive experience.

Our teacher-chaperones will work with students to adhere to these guidelines. We ask parents to speak with their children in advance about the importance of following instructions, being where you are supposed to be, supporting the safety of self and others, and meeting expectations. When chaperones are distracted by correcting misbehavior, they become less able to monitor the safety of all.

Please have a look at the linked document sharing our Behavior Expectations. We emphasize with students that we all play a role in ensuring that all students have a positive experience, not just ourselves. We appreciate any support families can provide to help us make sure this is a wonderful experience for everyone.
