Two Powerful Days of Student-Led Conferences

by Dennis Harter, MS Principal
dennish@isb.ac.th

The past two days have been another small step towards our return to ISB as a community hub and center of the partnership between home and school. We have enjoyed seeing parents on campus again, particularly in the context of seeing and hearing their children share their learning journey this year.

As I moved about the building and spoke with parents and students, I heard wonderful conversations about learning, growth, and challenge. I also saw parents and students alike beaming with pride during and after a successful Student-Led Conference (SLC).

We understand that parents also appreciate hearing directly from teachers. There will be a chance to do so when teachers share individual feedback written comments for each students in a month’s time.

Now, however, our focus was on the learning that the SLC  provides, developing reflective learners, confident speakers, and positive self-advocates. We know that students develop these skills with instruction and practice. Experiences like this, each year, further improve students’ skills so that they grow into the kinds of learners who can reach their potential, reflect on their growth, and manage challenging situations.

Thank you for providing the most important audience for your children’s reflection and growth. Like you, we are so proud of our students!

While surveys are still coming in, here’s some initial parent feedback so far (after 251 responses) with over 97% agreement to these important statements:

Recent Surveys regarding Grade Level Trips

Thank you to all parents who have completed the recent surveys regarding the grade level trips. As we look to the remainder of the year, we are trying to find experience for the students that stretch beyond the classroom and provide students with experiences in Thailand.

Your input is valuable in helping us complete the planning, settle on dates, and make final decisions on safety measures.

We understand there are still questions around pick up, travel distances, and issues in the event of a positive COVID case on a trip. We continue to look at solutions that might work to help ease the burden on parents.

If you have not completed the survey yet, we ask that you please look in your email as soon as possible to complete it. Your input is very helpful and appreciated.

Jazz Nite II 6:30pm, March 30, 2022 in te CC Theater

The ISB Jazz Combo will perform their second concert of the school year on Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30 pm in the CCT. The focus of the concert will be on the music of 3 great jazz artists/composers: Thelonius Monk, Lee Morgan, and Nat Adderley. Through their music, we learn about the many genres of this unique art form that start with the letter ‘B’ – Blues, Ballad, Bossa, Boogaloo, Bop and Broadway.  The highly personal art of improvisation will be stressed throughout the concert, along with the great melodies and harmonies of 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s jazz standards.  The concert is free to the public, and all are reminded about following the appropriate protocols for attending concerts, including masks and social distancing when seated.  We hope to see you there to enjoy some great tunes and support the work of our HS jazz musicians this semester.

Artists Under the Stars: Spring Edition

March 31st at the Panther Outdoor Stage

Welcome to spring! Although it might not look like it, March is a season for blooming flowers, rising temperatures, and a change of the tide. Arts Council would like to celebrate March with another round of beautiful performances at Artists Under the Stars. Sign up for a club booth HERE and HERE if you would like to perform. Setting up a booth at the event is a great way to raise money for your club in a creative and fun setting. For a first-time or regular performer, AUTS is versatile for everyone! The goal of this month’s open mic event is to celebrate all the arts events that happened in March and why it is so important at ISB. Make sure you stop by at Artists on March 31st, see more information in the poster attached!
