Help from home – maintaining safety measures
by Dennis Harter, MS Principal
dennish@isb.ac.th
We have had a positive return to campus this week. Students and staff have been very mindful of our safety measures and mask wearing has been overwhelming well done and maintained. Students have shared with us through our leadership roundtables that they are monitoring each other quite well and reminding their peers to follow the expectations. This is a terrific development as we are most successful when students are on board with the expectations and as such monitor their own adherence to them.
Of course, we also know that the longer we are open and on campus, the more comfortable everyone becomes. This is when people can start to become more relaxed or forgetful about expectations and guidelines.
Please continue to reiterate at home that mask wearing both protects the student and protects each other. With our actions, each of us model that following the guidelines is important and remains so. Thank you for continuing to have these important conversations at home. They help us continue to keep learning on campus and maintain as many of our programs as possible.
ATK reminder – Return to Sundays and Wednesdays
We appreciate students’ participation in daily ATK testing and form submission this past week.
Starting Sunday, January 23rd, we will return to requiring ATK tests and form submissions only on Sunday and Wednesdays, 4-8 pm. As always, in the event of a positive test or other concerns, please also contact nurse@isb.ac.th in addition to completing the form.
Wild Panthers are BACK!
We were so excited that this week our first group of 17 Grade 8 students were able to travel to the ISB Environmental Wilderness Campus (EWC) for our Wild Panthers program. Students developed in team work, leadership skills, and problem solving while engaging in new and challenging activities in the outdoors.
The Grade 8 Wild Panthers program, “Just Add Water” focused this learning in a water-based environment as students also learned kayaking and canoeing skills, combined with compass navigation and radio use.
With added safety measures in place, our ISB outdoor education teaching team hosted a terrific time for the first group. We can’t wait to get the rest of the grade 8 out there!
KidsFoto Samples have arrived
This week, your children should have received the samples of their school photos. These envelopes contain order forms if you would like to get printed copies.
If you would like to place an order, please select the photo(s) and product(s), prepare the exact amount due in cash, and seal well in the envelope provided. Your child can deposit the sealed enveloped in the KidsFoto box located in the MS Office. The deadline for submitting orders is January 31st.
Photo Make-Up opportunity
If you would like your child to retake the photos, KidsFoto will be on campus again on Monday 31st January & Tuesday 1st February. Students will go to the Chevron Backstage (same as last time) for the retakes. Parents can also contact Khun Nan at phremjiz@isb.ac.th to book their child in and/or if you have any questions.
STANDING TOGETHER WITH EVELYN
GIVE BLOOD
As you may already be aware, one of our most courageous Panthers, and a proud member of our PK-12 community, is in urgent need of our assistance. Evelyn Durbin, daughter of ISB teachers, Augusta Harison Denby and Charlie Durbin, has been fighting cancer for the past year. Complications from her most recent chemotherapy are requiring daily blood transfusions, and given the nationwide shortage of blood and platelets in Thailand, ISB will be hosting The Purple Blood Drive on campus February 1st, 2022 in partnership with the Thai Red Cross. Sign up HERE.
MAKE A DONATION
Facing near total kidney failure last week required a special emergency treatment for Evelyn not covered by medical insurance, so besides the obvious anguish she and her parents are feeling, the mounting costs associated with her care have now topped over eleven million Thai Baht. To help on this front, ISB has set up a special “Friends of Evelyn” account with donations accepted through PayPal, or by direct deposit at Bangkok Bank. Time is of the essence.
WEAR PURPLE
Finally, in a show of solidarity in support of Evelyn and her family, we are asking everyone to wear purple to school on February 1st!
