ES e-News for December 17, 2021

ES Report Cards Posted to PowerSchool

Semester 1 report cards are now available via PowerSchool.  We formally report on student learning twice each year (December and June). Please look over the report with your child, discussing strengths, areas for growth and goals.   For technical support please email help@isb.ac.th.

End of Semester Report Cards are an essential part of our updated Communicating Student Learning beliefs found in our ES Parent/Student Handbook (page 61):

At ISB we believe that Communicating Student Learning empowers each student to understand, reflect on, and take ownership of their learning process as well as fosters the partnership between parents, students and teachers.

We define Communicating Student Learning as:

  • Visibly documented evidence of learning growth over time for each child – knowledge, skills, attitudes and understandings.
  • Guided by clearly communicated goals, expectations, feedback and reflection.
  • Communicates student achievement in relation to grade level expectations at a given time.
  • Transparency of ISB program and learning outcomes for stakeholders.

Happy Holidays From All of Us at ISB!

From all of the staff in the Elementary School, we wish students and families a very safe and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday, January 10, 2022 (A Day).

Annual Elementary Festival of Lights Concert

On December 7th, our three ES music ensembles (Panther String Ensemble, Panther Orff Ensemble and Panther Choir) gathered on Zoom with their families to celebrate through song a number of holidays celebrated by members of our ISB community, all of which feature light in their celebrations. These young musicians, who have been restricted to virtual rehearsals for the entire semester, demonstrated great adaptability and commitment in their performances, and would love for the rest of the ISB community to enjoy their performances by clicking HERE

Weekly Message from Dr. Michael Allen

We ended the first semester on a literal high note as each grade level gathered in the Chevron Theater for the annual ES Festival of Lights Assemblies!  Typically we’d all gather together as an ES community, however given our desire to limit grade level cohorts from mixing, we hosted SEVEN separate assemblies…all extraordinary celebrations to wrap up the semester.  Enjoy the pre-recorded performances by clicking HERE. Please invite your child to tell you all about it…the images below will help them remember different aspects!

On behalf of all of us in the elementary school, we thank you for your ongoing support and partnership and wish you a safe and joyful December break!

Your partner in education,
Michael Allen, Ed.D.

Looking to Purchase Robotics sets for Holiday Gifts?

Students have been busy doing lots of coding and robotics in ES. If you are looking to purchase any of these sets for your child to use at home, here are some recommendations of the sets we use in ES. We use them for robotics design challenges in many subjects and grades.

Lego Wedo/Lego Essentials: These are great introductions to the world of robotics and coding. LEGO Education has recently discontinued the Wedo 2.0 Sets and introduced the LEGO Essentials this year. Although the Wedo sets are still fun, the newer LEGO Essentials would be a better long term investment. Great from KG-Gr3!

Dash and Dot Robotics: The Dash robot is fantastic and offers a number of accessories you can add which I highly recommend (Gripper and Ball Launcher). They offer free apps (Blockly) and still fun for students all the way up to Gr4/5.

LEGO Spike Prime: These recently released sets are great for students who have done a bit of coding before and geared more towards upper ES (and MS students).

You can buy them on Lazada and various educational distributors here in Thailand. Please note, these are sold independently by 3rd party vendors and ISB does not profit in any way through these sales.
