Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences

Next week, Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will take place on Thursday and Friday. Parents are required to book appointments (see communication from last Tuesday) and students are required to join the conference with teachers on Zoom. We ask that the student log in to the Zoom sessions using their school account, so that the family will be recognized in the teachers’ waiting rooms.

Engaging in these type of conferences online will REQUIRE that we stay ON TIME. 5 minute conferences are the maximum. As soon as one meeting goes longer, both the parent and the teacher are now running late and interfering with other conferences. Plan for 3-4 minute conversations with each teacher, so that you don’t run over and can be on time for your next appointment.

More information regarding conferences will be emailed to participants next week.

MAP Testing – November 22 – December 3, 2021

Dear Parents,

Between November 22 and December 3, 2021, MS students will take the NWEA Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) tests in Math and Reading.  Testing will take place during regularly scheduled Math and English classes.

The MAP test is a computer-based test that assesses students starting with a baseline question, and then adjusts subsequent questions to appropriately challenge each student.  The testing data provides a snapshot of what individual students can do at a specific point of time of the year. This information is useful to our teachers as they decide how to plan for the learning experience for their students.

There is no preparation needed for the MAP tests.  We do recommend that you get a good night’s sleep each night before your tests and that you eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school!  Everyone should bring a book to read in case you finish the test before being dismissed.

Adjustments to school arrival

After a week of having our full enrollment coming to campus each day, we have seen first hand the impact on traffic. We ask that parents look at their children’s arrival times this week at school to ensure that students will be on time for school moving forward.

Middle School students are expected to be in Advisory at 7:20 AM.  Therefore we expect them to arrive to campus by 7:15 AM at the latest.

Please adjust your child’s departure times and transportation expectations so that your children will be on time.

We have allowed for some leniency in the past week, to monitor the change in traffic patterns. Moving forward we will take attendance and record tardies for students who are not on time for class.

If you need to provide us information regarding attendance issues, please email, Khun Aor at: walairaw@isb.ac.th

In the media – Parent awareness around Squid Game

A recent Netflix show, “Squid Game,” has received a lot of attention around the world. The Korean series has been one of the most popular programs globally on Netflix. You may have heard your child(ren) talking about it.

At times parents may not know much about what their children are watching, so we wanted to share with you that we do not recommend that middle school aged students watch this program. The show is quite violent and presents dangerous games that have the potential to “catch on” with adolescents who look to engage in risky behavior. Squid Game is rated 18+ on Netflix.

For practical parental information regarding this show, we direct you to Common Sense Media, a US-based media watchdog that provides feedback on the appropriateness of media.

Important to continue with ATKs on Sundays and Wednesdays

As we fall into routine, we can also find ourselves complacent or forgetful of important requirements. In order for us to provide the greatest safety measures we can, it is essential that all of our community play its part. We ask that all parents ensure that their children do ATK tests between 4 and 8 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays. By submitting the forms in this time, we can contact trace and take measures to minimize the risk. When students come to school in the morning, having NOT completed the ATKs or forms, then we risk positive cases being amongst our student population in front of school, even if they are not allowed into campus.

Some parents remember later and we are emailed at midnight or later with the results of these tests. We cannot be online at all hours of the evening, so again, we ask that parents use the time slot provided, so that we have our chance to follow up.

We will be also sending emails to students to help them remind parents to conduct the tests and submit the forms.

Thank you for the part you play as a family to ensure the collective safety of us all.

MS Food Basket Donations to iCare

Students from the MS Covid Relief Club came up with many ideas to help iCare feed victims of Covid and one of those is the MS ADVISORY FOOD BASKET.

Each Advisory was designated a certain food to bring in on Monday to help. It is up to the student and family how much they want to donate. We are also asking families to donate any reusable plastic or cloth bags we can use for packaging.

We hope each family will help us contribute.
