‘Graduation’
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

I had originally planned to be writing this ENews article on Friday May 28th the day before our seniors were due to assemble in the Rajendra in order to receive their Diplomas and throw their caps in the air to mark the end of their HS career and the beginning of the next chapter in their lives. Alas, we are not able to hold a full ‘normal’ graduation this year, but we are still making sure that our seniors will be able to celebrate the end of High School with their parents next week during our drive in graduation ceremony taking place from Monday through Wednesday.

Our seniors have had a bumpy road with regards to disruptions to their studies, with online school taking up quite a large part of their studies and of course not having the opportunity to sit their final IB exams this year. They have been amazingly resilient and positive throughout this time, and we are all very proud of their attitude and positive commitment towards their learning even during these difficult times. Congratulations to our seniors (the class of 2021) and a big thank you to their parents for supporting them and ISB throughout their time at ISB.

All members of our ISB community will have an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate our seniors when the graduation ceremony video will be released on Saturday May 29th at 6pm for all to see on our website through youtube and facebook live.

Please join me in wishing our seniors all the best with their individual graduations next week.

Regards
Justin Alexander

Guided Independent Learning Days (May 19th and May 26th)

Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Over the next two weeks, we have adjusted the learning schedule for our High School students to provide them with some time to work independently and to reduce some of the time spent on screens and in zoom lessons with teachers. On Wednesday May 19th (Day 6) and Wednesday May 26th (Day 3) students in Grade 9 and 10 will have a guided independent learning day where teachers will have students work independently on assignments, projects or other work during those days. Teachers will also use this opportunity to schedule individual conferences with some students during their normal lesson time as required.

Grade 11 students will also be involved in independent guided learning in addition to spending time on CAS and their Extended Essays over those two days. They will have dedicated time scheduled with Mr. Assimakopoulos (CAS Coordinator) and Mr. Bell (Extended Essay coordinator for next year) and will be able to work on their extended essay supervisors as well.

Juniors:
If you have not had a final check in with your counselor, the next two Wednesdays, the 19th and the 26th, would be a perfect time to do so!! Even if it’s just 15 minutes. Or maybe it’s longer so you can discuss your latest essay draft or research questions. **A gentle reminder: college counselors will not be available over the summer, so talk to them now!!**

Parent Coffee Survey:
Parents! It was a tough year and we were not able to hold the Parent Coffee’s in-person and had to go virtual. We would love your feedback on the Parent Coffee series and what else you might want to see covered. Please take a moment and answer this short survey. The survey will close May 22.

Summer Programs:
If you are wondering what to do during the summer, check out our summer program opportunities list on the College Counseling Google site: Summer Programs

College Virtual Visits:
There are no more ISB college virtual visits, but that doesn’t mean you can’t virtually visit a college or university! Please go directly to the website of the university you are interested in learning more about and see what they have to offer. Remember, you are shopping for colleges, so take the time to check them out, see what they are about and if they are the right fit. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions to make sure they are good enough for you! From TIE Online: University Visits in a Post-Covid World?
